NAWEC Gets New Managing Director Foroyaa: June 26, 2019

A press statement emanating from the office of the President indicate that that after consultations with the Chairperson and members of the NAWEC Board of directors and the Public Service Commission (PSC), Baba Fatajo was relieved of the post of Managing Director of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), with effect from 28th June 2019.
The statement said Fatajo will be appointed as a diplomat in the Foreign Service. In the same vein, President Barrow has appointed Alpha Robison as the new Managing Director of NAWEC effective 1st July 2019.
However, the letter did not give reason(s) regarding Fatajo’s relieve from duty.

Baba Fatajo, the Managing Director of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has been removed, The Point has been reliably informed. He has been replaced by Alpha Robinson.
The vice chairman of the board of directors of NAWEC, Momodou P. Bah as also resigned in connection with the matter, claiming that the board was never informed of any wrongdoing of Mr. Fatajo and that the board was not consulted prior to the decision.
‘’No concerns have been raised with the board with regard to the performance, conduct, relationship, management or competence on the side of the current MD which would warrant his removal,’’ Mr. Bah said in his resignation letter seen by The Point.
The decision of removing Mr. Fatajo was an ‘Executive Directive,’ according to the termination letter seen by The Point.
“I am directed to inform you that an Executive decision has been taken to terminate your appointment as the Managing Director of National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) effect from 28th June 2019. Consequently, you will be paid one month salary in lieu of notice,” the letter stated.
The letter further stated that Mr. Fatajo would be contacted in due course for his new assignment in the public service.
Mr. Fatajo was appointed as the NAWEC MD in 2017.
