The maiden flight for Gambia Experience on Friday arrived at the Banjul International Airport carrying 179 passengers on board.
The airbus was received by officials of The Gambia Tourism Board as well as tour operators.
Adama Njie, director of Marketing, The Gambia Tourism Board, confirmed that this was the maiden flight from Gambia Experience carrying 179 passengers on board. He said that this was the first flight they received from the U.K.
“U.K. is actually the biggest source market for The Gambia,” he said, adding that Gambia Experience will be flying twice a week and they are going to have a third flight from December to January.
He explained that the reason for doing that is to meet the demand.
Mr. Njie added that the unique point about this season is that it is the first time they are having tourists directly from Russia to Banjul.
“We will definitely meet our target for 2018,” he said, while calling on stakeholders to work as a team, pointing out that if tourism success, everyone would be happy.
Oumie Sise from Discovery Tours, said they were excited for the new season of 2018/ 2019. “And we hope that it is going to be a better season compare to the previous seasons.”
“It is a challenge for us to make sure that we deliver to the fullest so that we attract more tourists.”
She said tourism is very important to the economy of The Gambia, suggesting that it is about time for stakeholders and authorities to put more efforts to make sure that it is sustainable.
