The governor of the Central River Region (CRR), Sulayman Barry, has said that majority of the area councils in the country do not have a specific system in place.

The CRR Governor made this statement on Thursday when the National Assembly Select Committee on Local Government and Lands paid a courtesy call on him.

He said that people’s perceptions about area are not very positive, “but sometimes we need to understand also how they do their work.”

“I think this is quite important as a body that is given the responsibility of an oversight function. It is very critical that we understand the people that we work with and how they do their work.”

The CRR governor suggests that the councils can get helped when institutions like the National Assembly pays them visit them in order to better understand what kind of challenges they are being faced with. “As a nation, we all have one vision; that is to move this country forward and we can only do that when we support each other in order to be able to move forward.”

“The best that we can do for them is not only to criticize, but also to try to understand what their problems and challenges are, and how can we support them so that they would move.

Governor Barry added that administering rates and taxes is a complicated matter, noting that it is very important that those who are given the responsibility to do that are really provided with the requisite skills.

Hon. Musa Amul Nyassi, chairperson of the committee and lawmaker for Foni Kansala thanked Governor Barry for welcoming them in his region, adding that this is customary. “We cannot just come to the region and start conducting our activities without paying a courtesy call on the governor of that region.”

"Simple is good" & I strongly dislike politics. You cannot defend the indefensible.
