Helsingnor Little School donates learning, teaching materials to KUBS

Helsingnor Little School in Denmark recently donated teaching and learning materials to Kuntaur Fulla Upper Basic School –KUBS- in Central River Region-north and distributed over 400 kilos of used clothing to 87 household in Kuntaur Fulla Kunda village, provision of electricity in the administrative and class room buildings in the school, construction of cement block slabs for women food vendors at the school canteen to maintain food safety and hygiene.


Course work materials were also provided to the school’s grade 9 students who will be sitting to their examination and sponsorship for14 needy students.

This is part of a partnership between the two schools since 1997. This year, eighteen grade ten students accompanied by two teaching staff members of Helsingnor Little School came to The Gambia.

During their stay at Kuntaur, students of the two schools participated in learning and information sharing on socio-cultural issues.

Deputising for the village alkalo during presentation of the donated materials, Demba Jawoh thanked students and teachers of Helsingnor Little School for what he called their “traditional support” to their school and the community since 1997.

He said the donated materials will contribute to the improvement of both practical and theory lesson delivery in the school.

Kanimang Camara, the link between the two schools thanked parents, students and staff of Helsingnor Little School for their usual support to the school and the community of Kuntaur Fulla.

He said during the 22 years of the link, over 404 students were sponsored and materials for student course work on wood work, art and craft and agricultural science were provided to the school.

Chairperson of the School’s Management Committee –SMC- Mansata Jabbie said KUBS is the oldest upper basic school in the district and has produced students who are today serving The Gambia in various capacities.

Mr. Jens Hoeg, one of the teaching staff of Helsingnor Little School thanked KUBS staff, students and the community for the hospitality they accord to them during their stay in the village.

He disclosed that over 300 Danish students have participated in the visits since 1997 and the impacts are visible in the way both sides positively view each other and sharing of experience. According to him, the visits enhanced cultural understanding between the two Schools. “I encourage students of both schools to be steadfast in your education because education leads to success.”

Landing Badjie, principal of Kuntaur Upper Basic School commended their counterparts for their long traditional support to the school since the establishment of the link. “We thank Helsingnor Little School through the Camara Family for providing the materials to both our school and the community.”

He assured the team that the materials will be put into good use and will go a long way in facilitating an enabling and conducive learning environment in the School.

Well done by the Helsingör Little School to continue the tradition of donating material, likewise the Camara family beeing the link between!
