National Assembly trains to perform oversight functions—Minority leader

The point: Thursday, October 26, 2017

Hon. Samba Jallow, the National Assembly member of Niamina Dankunku and the Minority leader, has said that the purpose of organising the training was to train members on how to perform their oversight functions at the parliament.
The Minority leader made this statement during an interview with journalists on day two of the training currently ongoing in Tendaba for the National Assembly members.
Hon. Jallow said the entire parliament is new; hence it was the responsibility of parliament to build their capacity so that they could at least perform on one of their mandates that is the oversight function.
According Hon. Jallow, they decided to change the entire portfolio of committees in the assembly; hence the need to be trained on their oversight functions.
“We have conducted about three trainings now which I believe members can use the knowledge gained to perform their oversight functions,” he said.
Hon. Jallow noted that it was the responsibility of institutions to revisit their acts where it has problems and bring them back to parliament.
