This article from The Daily Observer itself,it is obvious that there will be no going back as the GRA has tried its hardest to resolve the issues. No Legal person in Court to represent the Observer the judge can only allow the representation from the GRA.

COURT AWARDS D100K COST AGAINST OBSERVER
August 1, 2017 Daily Observer 0 Comments

Justice Basirou Mahoney of the High Court in Banjul Monday entered a judgment in favor of The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) and awarded a cost of One hundred thousand dalasi on top of the over seventeen million tax claim the revenue authority was claiming against the Observer Company; publisher of Daily Observer Newspaper.

In the suit, GRA was claiming the sum of D17, 473,584.47 (Seventeen million, four hundred and seventy three thousand, five hundred dalasis and forty-seven bututs) from the Observer Company as amount owing to them as tax.
The revenue authority also alleged that Observer failed to pay its corporate income tax, sales tax, Value Added Tax (VAT) and payroll tax from January 2007 to December 2016.
It equally claimed for interest thereon at the rate of 25% from January 2007 to December 2016 until the date of full payment.
When the case was called for hearing, the plaintiff GRA was represented by Lawyer Ma Nyima Bojang and Sallah, while Observer’s legal representatives were not in court.
After going through the claims of the plaintiff, the presiding judge realises that the defendant did not file anything to challenge the claim.

Observer MD Elbowed Out
August 9, 2017 Daily Observer 0 Comments
Pa Modou Mbowe, the managing director of Observer has finally been shown the exit gate of the Observer Company Limited, publisher of the Daily Observer Newspaper.
His dismissal, as confirmed by the company’s receivership, Augustus Prom is a move made in the best interest of the company and it is done for peace to prevail. “His service is terminated, and because of the receivership, his service had to be terminated as there cannot be two MDs,” Prom added.

In a statement issued on the 24th of July, 2017 by the staff of the company and in the letters given to him and the editor-in-chief, the staff said they lost confidence in their ability to lead them further and for them to continue to transform this paper, they need a leadership that is independent minded and would not undermine the credibility of the staff particularly the journalists.
They expressed their total disapproval of the MD’s negotiation skills over The Gambia Revenue Authority’s (GRA’s) matter, which they said has cause more harm than good to the workers.
The staff have also dismissed their editor-in-chief for being out of touch with the staff and that his sense of direction and thoughts are uncalled for.
When contacted for his reaction to this development, Mbowe said, “like you used to do, you can just go ahead and write whatever you want. I don’t think there is any need to explain myself because you people were in control and the publications you were doing were not professional. You just wrote a letter to me, so do what you want. I am not giving you any interview.”
Mr Mbowe was appointed as managing director of the Observer Company on the 19th December, 2016 by former President Yahya Jammeh.

The Daily Observer website is still active shown by today's date being displayed BUT it appears that there has been NO NEW articles published since April 2017,probably money problems still outstanding, not quite dead yet though !!
