A small movement from the politicians,BUT in order to see any movement customers & traders will have to wait 3 months for BAC to come up with a "strategic plan" BAC has a history of "problems" !
Quote from the article below in the DAILY OBSERVER: The chairman Brikama Area Council Bakary Saibo Sanneh said, ".......change of attitudes to ensure vibrant and effective public institutions."
Could the Chairman be a reader of Bantaba in Cyberspace !! I wonder =======================================================================
The governor of West Coast Region (WCR) has challenged Brikama Area Council (BAC) to come up with a three-month strategic plan in a bid to curb the menace posed by the huge stockpile of garbage in and around the public places.
Ebrima Mballow was speaking during a recent meeting with council’s senior management team, further expressing dismay with the surge in indiscriminate waste disposal in public places.
He described the council as the mirror or reflection of the region as well as the entry point of development in the region.
According to him, the current population of the region stands at 699,704 according to the 2013 population and housing census, something that shows that the council has huge revenue potentials.
He thus implored on the management to be efficient and effective in maximizing revenue collection to enable it implement infrastructural projects within the region.
The cardinal mandates of the council, Governor Mballow stated, are to ensure a safe, clean and hygiene environment.
To this end, he lamented the poor working conditions of labourers on low wages coupled with inadequate protective gears.
He averred that indiscriminate waste disposal posed serious health hazards to members of the public and thus urged management to adopt a short term strategy in addressing the threat.
The chief executive officer of Brikama Area Council, Mam Sait Jallow acknowledged that the council is facing complex demands and that his office is equally concerned about issues that have a negative impacts on the public.
Jallow attributed the problem to the rapid urbanization and high population growth rate of the region, something he believes, contributed immensely to huge generation of stockpiles of waste by the inhabitants.
Jallow informed that the council and the line ministry are providing technical support to tap revenue potentials of the council by evaluating properties, thereby building the capacity of personnel of the council.
The chairman Brikama Area Council Bakary Saibo Sanneh described the meeting as worthwhile, while stating that the issue of low wages for labourers is a great concern for the management.
He stressed the need for staff appraisal and change of attitudes to ensure vibrant and effective public institutions.

This from Foroyaa.
QUESTION OF THE DAY
The gates are wide open and trucks and donkey carts are dumping waste at the Bakoteh Dumpsite. Instead of managing the waste so that smoke will no longer bother the children at SOS Village and the surrounding homes in Bakoteh and Manjai, those who should be finding a solution to the effect of indiscriminate dumping at the site are trying to find scapegoats.
The issues associated with the dumpsite are real. It is an eye sore and thus poses tremendous health risks if not managed properly. The authorities should focus on the concerns of the community. Individuals may have their motivations, political or otherwise. That however does not negate the fact that the health risk posed by the indiscriminate dumping at the Bakoteh Dumpsite does not exclude any person because of political allegiances. All are affected, irrespective of political affiliation and the community as a whole is concerned.
The role of the service provider is to ensure that the promises made by the minister at the National Assembly are pursued to the letter.
The president of the country should be keen to speak to any Gambian on any national or community issue regardless of their political motivations, political or otherwise, in order to address any issue of concern. Every person matters to the person who is given the responsibility to serve all without fear or favour, affection or ill will.
