After Jammeh as predicted continues to live in his parallel universe. Refusing to to step down whilst going as far as taking out an injunction to try and stop Bartow's inaugration.
However the AU has said it will no longer recognise Jammeh as President after 18th January,2017.
President Elect Adama Barrow meets his ECOWAS Colleagues. The Heads of States meeting is to go ahead Bamako without Jammeh. This will give ECOWAS Leaders to meet Barrow and have discussions with him about the impasse and security requirements for Barrow to take up officd as The President of The Republic of The Gambia.
With 5 days left energies are focused more on what will be. Rather than what has been .
President Barrow now seats at the table with the powerful Heads of States of in West Africa, and AU who back him. He is now a new member of that Club, and the AU.Jammeh needs to quietly pack his bags and leave with dignity.

Gambia's President-elect Barrow to stay in Senegal until inauguration

 Per the direction of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Gambia’s President-elect Adama Barrow will stay in Senegal until his inauguration on January 19.
Senegalese authorities announced on Saturday night that they agreed to host Barrow after the request was made.
“Senegalese President Macky Sall agreed in Bamako on Saturday to host Gambian President-elect Adama Barrow in Dakar until his inauguration,” Senegalese news agency APS reported.
APS added that the request was made by the ECOWAS chairperson, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who advised that Barrow stays in Dakar until the inauguration day when he will be escorted to Banjul.
Adama Barrow is reported to have arrived in Dakar on Sunday from the 27th France-Africa summit in Mali which he attended with ECOWAS leaders on Friday evening after mediation talks with Yahya Jammeh ended inconclusively.
ECOWAS is expected to revisit talks with Jammeh who is seeking to mar the inauguration after a recent court application to place an injunction on the exercise which ends his term of office.
Thousands of Gambians have reportedly fled the country as the inauguration is getting close due to the heightened security situation in the country.
The army has pledged its support for President Jammeh who wants a reelection. |

"President Muhammadu Buhari and other West African leaders have tactically taken Gambia’s president-elect, Adama Barrow, into safety after a botched attempt to persuade President Yahya Jammeh to voluntarily cede power after he lost the 1 December election.

That seems to be the case. The telephone conversation between outgoing President Jammeh and President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the ECOWAS Chair, after the heads of state of ECOWAS had their meeting with President-elect Barrow confirms that the regional authority aims to take charge of the situation by the 19 January 2017 if the Gambian political stakeholders do not show maturity to take charge of their own destiny.
It is time for propaganda to stop. It serves no good in trying to pit one ethno-linguistic group against another.
Gambians have not had a state of emergency since 1981. It is irrational for Gambians to hate each other just because of loyalty to any political leader who cannot provide their supporters with the basic necessities of life at all times.
Political leaders should get used to going into and leaving office in peace and tranquility. No one is a better Gambian than other. No one deserves to be president for life and no sane and dignified person would give one’s life to keep a president for life to create an environment of conflict after losing an election. |
