Religious leaders; the last hope for the defeated president Yahya Jammeh (source www.dailynews.gm)
By Madi M.K.Ceesay

The proposed meeting between the religious leaders and the outgoing president is set for today Thursday 15 December 2016, though no time is fixed for it. A media release read over GRTs indicates that the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council should coordinate the meeting.
This meeting is been proposed by Yahya Jammeh the defeated APRC presidential candidate in the December 2016 elections. Jammeh has since agreed and even congratulated the Coalition candidate President elect Adama Barrow; only to come back and disagree.
Since then the outgoing president Jammeh is under local and international pressure to give way to a peaceful transition.
The Gambia Bar, the Gambia Chambers of Commerce, the Gambia Teachers Union, the Gambia Female Lawyers Association, medical and Dental Association, Institute for Human Right Development for Africa and many other local civil society associations have asked the defeated Yahya Jammeh to respect the verdicts of the Gambian people.
At International level the United Nations, The African Union, the ECOWAS, and states like the United Kingdom, The USA, France and others all asked Jammeh who ruled the Gambia for 22 years to step down and give peace a chance.
Yahya Jammeh has lost the confidence of all (locally and internationally) and now has only one hope and that is the Gambia Supreme Islamic council to coordinate a meeting of religious leaders for him.
Daily News wonders what Jammeh has to tell these religious leaders a group who he is fond of heaping unacceptable words and sometimes even take them for a ride.
Muhamed Lamin Touray who is the president of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council and his colleagues are here warn to be mindful of what they say in this meeting as the whole world will be watching. The meeting is not their making and so they are only to listen and respond accordingly between them and Allah. We shall see if they believe Allah or Jammeh.
They the religious leaders are all the time telling Gambians that Jammeh’s presidency is decreed by Allah and so be it; now that the same Allah on 1 December 2016 has decree his defeat we are listing and watching. History will judge you all soon.
