THE BATTLE FOR THE PRESIDENCY HAS BEGUN
Foroyaa Editorial: November 11, 2016

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) received the nomination papers of three presidential aspirants and gave them acceptance letters. It promised that after scrutiny they would be able to issue the verdict on Friday, 11 November. In fact, yesterday the IEC confirmed the nomination of all three candidates, namely, the incumbent, Adama Barrow and Mamma Kandeh.

The convoys that followed the candidates after nomination are being compared. It is evident that 1 December 2016 election will be hotly contested.

Predictions are being made from different quarters which indicate that the balance of support for the candidates has shifted. It has given a new life to the political process. All sides should maintain their commitment to leave the people to decide who should manage their affairs.

December 2016 will reveal who the people will entrust their destiny to. By 2 December 2016 Gambians will wake up to the reality that the 886,578 voters will determine.

A clear conscience fears no accusation - proverb from Sierra Leone
