Welcome Dr. Isatou Touray!

 It is with deep feeling of relief and gratification that Dr. Isatou Touray has now fully and unconditionally joined the Opposition Coalition under the candidacy of Adama Barrow for the December 1 presidential elections. Through dialogue and engagement, the slow but sure journey towards national liberation is on firm grounds in the right direction. The need for the total unity of numbers and visions of our political leaders in this most trying time is dastardly urgent and nigh.
I wish to therefore express special appreciation to Dr. Touray for continuing to fulfill her sense of patriotism and passion for constitutional democracy for the Gambia, majority of whom are her children. It was the erudite revolutionary scholar, Paulo Freire, in his seminal work ‘Pedagogy of the Oppressed, who noted that,
“Leaders who do not act dialogically, but insist on imposing their decisions, do not organize the people, they manipulate them. They do not liberate, nor are they liberated: they oppress.”
By engaging in dialogue therefore Isatou has demonstrated her preparedness to free her people for which history shall record with the indelible ink of the centuries.
As Nkrumah noted, African needs a new citizen to build a new Africa, hence the African Personality. Gambia needs new citizens to build a New Gambia. Your gesture, Isatou is the manifestation of the values of that African Personality, who Nkrumah described as,
“a dedicated, modest, honest, informed man and woman who submerge self in service to the nation and mankind. A man and woman who abhors greed and detests vanity. A new type of man and woman whose humility is his and her strength and whose integrity is his and her greatness.”
The task for hard work has just begun, and remember Nelson Mandela had taught us that there is no easy walk to freedom. The coalition need a robust, scientific, modern campaign strategy beyond and above what has ever been done in the political history of the Gambia. The role and contribution of every child, youth, woman and man in and outside the Gambia cannot be over emphasized.
In this regard Mama Kandeh and Team must be equally engaged to put nation above self and party.
