Migrant crisis: 'Hundreds dead' in shipwrecks off Libya

BBC Online

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-37861700

More than 239 migrants are believed drowned in two shipwrecks off the coast of Libya, migration officials say.

The UNHCR refugee agency was told the news by survivors brought ashore on the Italian island of Lampedusa, spokeswoman Carlotta Sami said.

No bodies have so far been recovered.

More than 4,200 migrants have died making the dangerous journey across the Mediterranean Sea this year, International Organization of Migration spokesman Leonard Doyle says.

The UN has warned 2016 could be the deadliest for migrants making the journey.

Nearly 330,000 migrants have crossed the sea so far this year, compared with more than one million in 2015.................

The agreement between the EU and Turkey would stop the death by drowning in the Mediterranean.
It might have saved lives of those coming from the Middle East, while Africans are still losing their lives in the sea.

I want to share the dramatic photos with you, the first four are from today, others from earlier this year.

Kiwi, Its a very sad situation. These young people know what awaits them at sea but they keep on with the attempt to reach Europe with the hope of a better life. They would rather die trying to reach Europe than staying home where there is no hope for them.
