IEC embarks on replacement of voting cards

The Point: Wednesday, June 01, 2016

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has embarked on replacement of voting cards starting from today 1st June 2016 through 29 September 2016.
A press release sent yesterday to this paper by the IEC stated that the exercise will take place at the IEC Election House in Banjul and at its regional offices across the country.

The release, signed by IEC Chair Alieu Momar Njai, stated:

Replacement of voting cards

In a bid to enable those whose cards are lost, mutilated, burnt or defaced to vote in the forthcoming elections, the Independent Electoral Commission will conduct replacement of voting cards from 1st June to 29th September 2016.

This exercise will be conducted at Election House along Bertil Harding Highway and the seven IEC Regional Offices in Banjul, Kanifing, Brikama, Kerewan, Mansakonko, Janjangbureh and Basse.

This exercise is carried out in accordance with Section 38 of the Elections Act. Each Replacement attracts a fee of one hundred dalasis (D100.00).
