WHY ARE PARENTS OF ALLEGED INSURGENTS STILL DETAINED? COULD THE UN, THE AU AND ECOWAS GIVE US AN ANSWER!!!

Foroyaa Editorial: Published on April 14, 2015

The Gambian leaders have gone before the UN to condemn impunity in international politics. The African Centre For Human and Peoples Rights is based in Banjul. Both the Universal Declaration of HumanRights and the African Charter as well as the Gambian Constitution forbid arbitrary arrest and detention.
The African Union and ECOWAS do engage in peer consultation to ensure compliance with community norms. It is urgent for the two institutions to collaborate to exert peer influence to promote adherence to community values.
In the same vein a UN envoy had told the Gambian population that the government had agreed to collaborate with the UN system to ensure that the 30th December insurgency would be handled on the basis of the rule of law and the standards of best practice.

A clear conscience fears no accusation - proverb from Sierra Leone
