Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, January 14, 2015

Dr Husby and Einar Gude, both Norwegians doctors, Tuesday donated C-Arm Machine worth over D1.3M and four boxes of surgical gowns to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare at a ceremony held at the Health Ministry in Banjul.

The donation came through one Dr Lamin E.F Jaiteh of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, who later handed over the machine to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr Lamin E.F Jaiteh stated that the machine donated will go a long way in addressing the health needs of Gambians and non-Gambians alike. He described the coming of the C-Arm machine as timely revealing that the machine is use for bones and heart surgery.
According to him, the C-Arm machine will greatly help to ease the work of doctors at the hospital.
Dr Jaiteh thanked the Norwegians doctors for the donation noting that this will add another moral boost to the hospital and the health sector as a whole.
The director of Health Services Dr Samba Ceesay, on behalf of the Health minister thanked the donors for the support and urged others to emulate the good gesture.
He said health is everybody’s business and contributing in the health sector is a worthy cause.

If you like me, (and presumably the author Momodou Faal of the D.O.) had not the faintest idea what a C-Arm machine was, I looked it up,lucky for us All Africa had, here is what it is ,a special X Ray machine.I hope it comes with a skilled technician who knows how to operate it and teach others his knowledge so it will not become the subject of "maintenance",due to misuse.!!!

Snippet:
"The items that included: a fluorescence X-ray machine also known as a C-arm for orthopedics and other surgical procedures"

In my opinion it is a health hazard to the surgeon and to the patient, I do do believe the medical staff have the correct timed training on this extremly complicated high tech machine.

Radiation....Radiation......

If u scroll down the link u will see the equipment is the same as that quoted in The Observer.
