WHY AND HOW MUCH IS BEING SPENT ON REGIONAL SOLIDARITY MARCHES?

Foroyaa Editorial: Published on January 14, 2015

Only a destabilised government would put legal processes aside and concentrate on populist responses to armed insurrection. A stable government would quickly go back to business after such incidents and give the appearance of complete normalcy.
At the moment, the office of Attorney General should be active guiding the government on the legal basis of handling the December 30th incident. The comments of government officials should be guided by the Attorney General who is the principal legal adviser of the government.

What is the government gaining by putting relatives of alleged insurgents in custody? What danger do they pose to government? What have they done to warrant their detention? Why should government wait for outsiders to raise the issue of their unlawful detention to react? Isn’t the Gambian media holding it accountable through such publication? Why is it acting on piecemeal basis?

There is need for professional intervention to enable Gambians to close this chapter and open up a new Page free from propaganda for the ruling party. Let the matter be strictly handled as a legal matter. This is what is proper.
