PRESIDENT YAYA JAMMEH SENSITISING TO STAY IN POWER AND RULE BEYOND 2024

Daily Observer News; Thursday, July 24, 2014
The president of the Republic has unveiled his plan to achieve an ‘economic superpower status’ for The Gambia in year 2024, four years after the Vision 2020 would have been achieved.
In a statement delivered on the eve of the 20th Anniversary of the July 22nd Revolution, His Excellency Sheikh Prof. Alh. Dr. Yahya Jammeh, whose 24-page statement touched on all sectors of the national economy, said his government’s wish for economic superpower status is “not a fantasy but is actually within reach and perhaps sooner rather than later”.
Under the theme ‘With Allah the Almighty on our side, and, all of us working together, the economic superpower status will be achieved by 2024’, Jammeh underscored that they have what is necessary to transform the country into a First World country.
“All we need is unity, dedication and commitment to the nation and its interests. We must work hard and worship only Allah the Almighty at all times. We have to shun all the vices that will set us back and slow our glorious march to economic supremacy,” he urged.
The Gambian leader also spoke against corruption and described it as an impediment to national development. To this end, and in line with his government’s zero tolerance to this ill vice, he disclosed plans by his administration to establish an Anti-Corruption Commission “very soon’.
His statement also highlighted the massive achievements in all sectors of the economy, while providing a compelling analysis of the evolution of the various sectors.
Below we reproduce verbatim his full statement.......Full Report
