Phew, very strong stuff here from The Daily Observer, some longer term readers of Bantaba in Cyberspace MAY remember me banging on and on about,"Attitudinal change" well, those two words together have surfaced again,What will happen now, anything?
What do you think reader.? (singular, notice !!)
SNIPPET: "The most important thing we Gambians should be willing to embrace is the need to have attitudinal change in all aspects of our lives especially so for public workers."
Honesty: The price of progress Africa » Gambia Tuesday, July 08, 2014 Editorial
The primary responsibility of any government is to administer for the public good. This implies that those who occupy public offices are trustees whose task is to be in the service of the people.
For The Gambia to achieve its lofty goals of sustainable development, our citizens cannot afford to lack some of the basic human virtues considered imperative for our development, as indicated in the Vision 2020 and other numerous development blueprints like the Programme for Accelerated Growth and Employment (PAGE) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) among others.
To move The Gambia forward as a country we need to live, work and respect values that define us as a people, values that maintain our integrity as a nation and those that foster our independence and self-reliance. In so doing, we must look-forward for the solutions to the challenges facing us. The country cannot be developed through heavy reliance on foreign aid and the perceived riches in the West, characterised by youths embarking on perilous sea journeys to the West despite the numerous opportunities at their disposal at home.
A lot has been done over the years and a lot more need to be completed amidst the endless challenges along the way. The most important thing we Gambians should be willing to embrace is the need to have attitudinal change in all aspects of our lives especially so for public workers.
Corruption and dishonesty pose a real threat to the development of any given society. It is high time people in custody of public affairs become aware of their roles and responsibilities as public trustees. We need honest, committed and hardworking people instead of self-serving individuals. Author: Daily Observer

MY OBSERVATION AN INSULT NEVER INTENDED
Pity, Bantaba in cyberspace readers, obviously do not think that this topic is important, judging by the current number of reads,Gambia will remain in the same undeveloped state as it is at present,if a change in basic thinking of the average Gambian is not made. In today's world thinking by the average Gambian can no longer rely on promises as to the future made by brothers and sisters. MONEY now rules the world in money dealing honesty should be paramount. Any reader bother to comment? I wonder, maybe just maybe SOMEONE has an opinion!!!! |
