Youssou Ndour inks over D3M Gambia mega concert deal

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

Acclaimed Senegalese international music icon, Youssour Ndour, has signed over D3M (three million dalasis) contract with the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation Staff Association (SSHFC) for a string of concerts in The Gambia next month, officials have disclosed.

It will be the star’s first appearance in The Gambia since re-launching his musical career in 2013, which was interrupted by politics.

Speaking to the Daily Observer Monday at the Boardroom of SSHFC, the public relations officer of the Association, Alhaji Muhammed Sallah, said the concerts will be held on the 18th, 19th, and 20th of April 2014. He thanked Allah for making it possible for them to sign Youssou Ndour; he also thanked their chief patron, the president of the Republic, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh.

“The contract has been signed through our able president, Lamin Sima, with the arrangements made by Gibril Bah. Youssou Ndour has promised many surprises for Gambians. We want to make every Gambian happy because they all miss the icon,” he stated.

Sallah disclosed that proceeds to be realised from the concerts will be used to support the development initiatives of President Jammeh in key sectors such as security, education, agriculture, and health.

He thanked the management of SSHFC for its support to the Staff Association, while appealing to the general public to come in their numbers to patronize the noble initiative.

2014

How can they afford these tickets; especially government employees earning between D1500 - D2500 or D3000 (Drivers, Teachers, Police, Army, Law Enforcement Officers, Middle-level Civil Servants, Nurses & Hospital Staff categories; among many Private sector employees); after buying a bag of rice for month's feeding at a price of D1100 - D1300

Are these tickets affordable under present economic conditions? NO THEY ARE NOT AFFORDABLE!

Most of Private Sector employees on the top are patronised and sponsored from the institutions, Companies and Banks etc, where they are employed but not coming out from their pockets for these PRICES/INDIVIDUAL;
  • 18th April Banquet Gala Dinner: Platinum D6000

  • 18th April Banquet Gala Dinner: Diamond D5000

  • 8th April Banquet Gala Dinner: Gold D4000

  • 18th April Banquet at Independence Stadium Individual: D2000

  • 19th April Grand Dance at Independence Stadium: VIP D1200

  • 19th April Grand Dance at Independence Stadium: Individual D800

  • 20th April Grand Mega Show at Independence Stadium: VIP D800

  • 20th April Grand Mega Show at Independence Stadium: Individual D300

Kobo, For once I have to agree with you .These prices are a joke. Most Gambians will struggle to pay 300 Dalasi for a ticket.Shame on Youssou for agreeing not to play for the people at an affordable price, though I seem to remember that when Sizzla played tickets were 300.And to top it all is he really being paid D3 million for these concerts. Sounds like a lot of that will be skimmed off at the top. I would like to know what he is being paid.

rassimian. Youssou does not determine the prices. He is a megastar and this is nothing to him. It is his agent/management that work out a reasonable good business for them on Gambian standards, covering travel costs and to mobilize his entourage; employed and being paid.

The organisers are banking on the tourist season because many tourists will want to be enjoy and political patronage using Jammeh/President foundation/projects.These ticket prices are nothing to the tourists for @ £1=D60 e.g D300 = £5; D800 = £13; D1200 = 20; D2000 = £33; D4000 = D67; D5000 = £83 & D6000 = £100. Note banquet dinners tickets (£67; £83 & £100) for Gold, Diamond & Platinum tickets are jointly for couples; catering for meal and refreshments.

The windfall gain work like this (See below for breakdown of DONATIONS EXPECTED );

SELECTED LIST OF EXPECTED DONATIONS/PATRNAGE:
  • Africell D500000 - D1 Million

  • Muhammed Jah/Quantum D500000 - D1 Million

  • Gambia Ports Authority/Ferry Services D500000 - D1 Million

  • GIA D500000 - D1 Million

  • Gambia Bird D500000 - D1 Million

  • Gamcel D500000 - D1 Million

  • QCell D500000 - D1 Million

  • Amadou Samba/Gacem D500000 - D1 Million

  • Gam Petroleum Company D500000 - D1 Million

  • Trust Bank D500000 - D1 Million

  • All other private Banks D500000 - D1 Million

  • Central Bank D500000 - D1 Million

  • GRA (Gambia Revenue Agency) D500000 - D1 Million

  • APRC Patrons like Turo Darboe D500000 - D1 Million

  • Lebanese Community/Businessmen & other Private Sector Investors D500000 - D1 Million

  • Hotels Management D500000 - D1 Million

THEY ARE DIPPING FROM THE COFFERS FOR JAMMEH FOUNDATION, KANILAI GROUP, KANILAI FARMS, KANILAI FAMILY & APRC TO SQUANDER. ALREADY D3M MISAPPROPRIATED FROM SSHFC WORKERS PENSIONS/PROVIDENT FUNDS ULTRA VIRES THE SCOPE OF POWERS OF SSHFC CORPORATION & AUTHORITY OF DIRECTORS

Kobo,what are you saying and I quote "it is his agent /management that work out a reasonable good business on Gambian standards" Thats a joke then if D3 million is seen as reasonable. My point is that Youssou N'Dour is wealthy enough to play at least a free concert for the people but these mega-super stars never do. Take Rolling Stones etc and even Marley always looking for top dollar for all their shows. If I lived in London I would struggle to afford tickets for many of the gigs put on there.These music stars soon forget who put them on centre stage. Still money makes more money. Greed is the order of the day and money is the root of all evil!!is it not?

Kobo,what are you saying and I quote "it is his agent /management that work out a reasonable good business (for them) on Gambian standards"

You missed out "for them" in bracket above referring to Youssou Ndure Management Team/Entity! Senegal economy is bigger than Gambia and cost of living higher. The projection by his management team is profit-maximisation(business venture; not gratis or free); applying CFA FOREX exchange rate; to cover reasonable profit or to break-even level, travelling cost and employee wages who are living in Senegal. The Easter weekend holiday is lucrative period as other competitive offers would be rejected for Gambia mega concert reservation and that is also taken into account by his Management Team/Agent.

Someone should be held accountable, and the buck stops with the CORRUPT President (Kanilai monster) and Directors of SSHFC that failed nation; with blatant corporate THEFT & MISUSE OF BLOOD/SWEAT MONEY PUBLIC FUNDS; not used for legal purpose, especially ex-employee providence.

2. FREEDOM NEWSPAPER REPORTED TODAY LEAKED NEWS THAT IN FACT;
SSHFC Pays Youssou Ndour D 7 Million And Not D 3 Million As Reported By The Daily Observer!!
@£1/D60 = £116,667

LATEST PHOTO FROM REPORTER: "Yesterday was the BANQUET DINNER, tonight is the GRAND DANCE and tomorrow the MEGA SHOW…."

What's On Gambia FB comment after 1st Gala Night Dinner: "The Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation Staff Association is about to laugh all the way to the bank as they prepare to rake in millions of dalasi from Youssour N’Dour’s weekend concert. It is the Senegalese superstar’s first appearance in the country since his return to the stage."

Irrespective of contract substantial amount allege to have been paid, Freedom reported that "The good news is that the Youssou banquet show was a success story. The SSHFC was able to rake more than D 7 Million on Youssou's first night show in Banjul."

Kobo. D7million ! GREED is what I call it . Who ever gets what from these concerts its too much !Ordinary Gambians would be lucky to afford the cheapest D300 tickets. And as you say it seems like money siphoned off by the MAD one as I call him. Thats what you get from corrupt people in power anyway so no surprises there.

Read following Time News report on entertainers (especially pop stars) celebrating dictators; covering Erykah Abi Wright (born Erica Abi Wright; February 26, 1971), better known by her stage name Erykah Badu an American singer-songwriter, record producer, activist, and actress contracted for Roots Homecoming Festival concert this May (9th - 16th) sponsored by the dictator of The Gambia criticised; among Beyoncé, Nelly Furtado, 50 Cent, Usher, and Mariah Carey, who performed for up to $2 million each for parties hosted by the family of the late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi and also again Mariah Carey performing for the longtime strongman of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos. Carey was paid more than $1 million to celebrate dos Santos, who has a 35-year track record of murdering his critics.

It is interesting to note that the Youssou Ndure mega concert was well publicize but after events nothing is heard to render the financial accounts, profits or loss, success of concert, reimbursement of D7Million back to SSHFC coffers, allocation of balance of funds accrue for targeted projects and worthy cause to justify illegally syphon or using workers providence funds to finance the mega concert contract; up-till now.

WHERE IS THE MISSING D7MILLION SSHFC WORKERS PROVIDENCE FUNDS
