Wednesday, March 26, 2014

The number of tourist arrivals to Destination Gambia from the month of January to December 2013 has surpassed the number of arrivals from January to December 2012. Statistically, the number of tourist arrivals by air for the year 2012 stood at 157,323 while year 2013 air arrivals is 171,200 and this did not factor the number of arrivals by sea and land.

I know that these are the official figures so maybe hard to dispute in any way but I was in Gambia in January this year and everywhere I went ,from the stip during the day and night to Serrekunda, to the rural areas, I was not aware of an over abundance of tourists and those that I did notice were predominantly older rather than younger. Maybe more people are staying in their hotels. I walked throught the Senegambia hotel complex on several occasions and there was no ROOM to put your towel,it was so jammed! I was only glad not to be there. Anyone else who has been this year got any comments.

Looks like we need some airline (bottoms on seats) figures! I was there Jan until 4th April this year and would like to see what they have to say about those three months. Still a very long way to go to match the figures pre 94 or 97 taking into account the vast amount of hotel's that have been built over recent years & the number of miles they now cover! Four white bodies were the most at any one time I ever saw in Serrekunda market.
True figures/stasticics were never the forte' of The Gambia were they?
Personally, I do not believe them.

Wonder what figure they would give me for the hours of electricity into our compound for those three months? It cost more in candle than electric!
