Gambia’s Political Hero Shyngle Nyassi Has Fallen
One of the Gambia’s political heroes has fallen. The untimely death of Momodou Lamin Nyassi alias Shyngle in New York, United States of America, struck people like a thunderbolt.
Shyngle had died of heart attack. Shortly before he died, Shyngle had spoken to many people who found it difficult to believe his death.
Mr. Nyassi, the Propaganda Secretary of the main opposition United Democratic Party, had been on tour in the United States. The tour was meant to sensitize Gambians about the political situation back home and to drum up support for the opposition. Mr. Nyassi’s tour took him to the states of North Carolina, Washington, Maryland, and New York, among others.
Born in Bwiam in Foni Kansala, Mr. Nyassi had become the symbol of the Gambia’s opposition. He had throughout stood his grounds, promoting democracy and the rule of law. During his lifetime, Shyngle resisted against tribal politics in his native Foni.....

This is really a shocking news. May Allah have mercy on his soul and grant him Jannah (Ameen). My sincere condolences to his family, friends and to his party members the UDP.

UDP’s Shyngle Nyassi passes away
Reacting to the sudden news, Ousainou Darboe, party leader and Secretary General of the United Democratic Party, told journalists at a press conference that on Monday night at around 11pm, he received a call from the US announcing to him the sudden and untimely death of Momodou Lamin Shyngle Nyassi.
According to him, “Shingle Nyassi’s death is one of those events that will never be forgotten in the history of the country, as he was a political institution in his own right, a titan, and a giant”.
‘‘I will not speak of Nyassi in the past; I will speak of him in the present, because it is people who have not contributed to the well-being and who passed away are talked of in the past, but those who have contributed to the advancement of their nation, their society are always spoken of in the present, when they depart this world,’’ Darboe stated....

1. Gambian Hero, UDP Lion Shyngle Nyassi Laid To Rest
The coffin of the late Honorable Momodou Lamin Shyngle Nyassi has arrived at Yundum international airport today at 3 PM GMT. A motorcade of over 23 cars led by the leader of United Democratic party, the brother of Shyngle Nyassi, his sons, party supporters and Gambians at large converged at the airport to receive Mr. Nyassi’s remains.
The lion politician was finally laid to rest at Brikama Cemetery at 6:30 PM.
Lawyer Ousainou Darboe described the late Nyassi as “our brother lion who never gave up. Shyngle’s vacuum will be hard to fill.”
Shyngle Nyassi was accorded a fitting procession. Kibaaro Radio will broadcast the highlights of Mr. Nyassi’s funeral in our subsequent programs. Speaker after speaker paid tributes to the late opposition pillar, describing him as “a true patriot who never wavered in his quest to unite and shape a better living for all Gambians.”
“We gave Shyngle the biggest farewell,”a prominent UDP activist told Kibaaro News. “Those who doubted our love for him are put to shame.”
The Public Relations Officer of UDP assisted us in getting all the pin drops at the funeral procession. “As a final show of respect, the youths refused Mr. Nyassi’s coffin to be carried in a car to the cemetery,” Lamin Jobarteh said. “They are holding the late Shyngle Nyassi high up, praising God all the way to cemetery. Youths wear T-Shirts with the bold photo of Shyngle Nyassi in front, and a UDP Lion printed at the back of the T-Shirt.”
“Shyngle Nyassi has written his own story,” UDP mouthpiece said, quoting an old adage that “If the lion does not write his own story, the hunter will be dignified. Shyngle is a lion and he has written his own story. No hunter will be dignified.”....

2. Opposition Icon and face of the political Struggle Shyngle Nyassi finally laid to Rest
Momodou Lamin Shyngle Nyassi who has been described in many quarters as the face of the opposition struggle in the Gambia has finally been laid to Rest. Mr. Nyassi’s funeral was held in Brikama where thousands of people converged to pay their last respect to the political hero who died of an apparent heart attack in New York while on a visit to the United States.
Mr. Nyassi’s burial was attended by high profile dignitaries from the opposition, community leaders including the ruling APRC government. He was once again described by the leader of the UDP as “our brother lion who never gave up. Shyngle’s vacuum will be hard to fill.” Darboe said in a somber mood. Many people spoke at the funeral describing the departed political hero as a man of principle, God fearing who gave up everything he had for his country.....

Late Shingle Nyassi Finally Laid to Rest
The coffin carrying the body of late Momodou Lamin Shyngle Nyassi, the former UDP National Youth Mobiliser, touched down at the Banjul international airport on Sunday, 15th October, 2013 at about 3pm local time before being escorted to his home in Brikama for burial. The Late Shyngle Nyassi died in the United States of America on Monday, 7 October, while on a visit there. Many sympathizers, including both the membership and leadership of the United Democratic Party (UDP), accompanied his body from the airport to his family home at Brikama.
All those who spoke at the funeral, including the UDP leader, Mr. Ousainou Darboe, Mr. Sidia Jatta of PDOIS, Mr.Dullo Bah of NRP and the Imam of Bwiam, paid their last respects to the late Shyngle Nyassi and praised him for the selfless sacrifices he has made for the country, citing his honesty and attesting to his fear of God; that all he wanted was a change for the better.Mr. Ousainou Darboe asked people to pray for Shyngle.
The late Shyngle Nyassi was accompanied by a huge crowd of mourners to his final resting place.His body was finally interned at the Brikama Cemetery at about 6.30pm.The funeral was attended by people from all walks of life such as the likes of OJ Jallow, Dulloh Bah of NRP, Sedia Jatta of PDOIS, the emissary of former President Jawara and some members of the APRC all extending their condolence to the bereaved family.
