Physical Planning Department to Carry out Demolition Exercise
By Bakary Y. Jammeh
on 01-10-10

The Department of Physical Planning intends to carry out a demolition exercise in Bundung Borehole and Sukuta Nema next week.
The department had warned the family heads of the affected compounds to demolish their structures before the 4th of October 2010, or face paying cost when the government does it by itself.

This information is contained in a letter dispatched to the affected family heads by the Physical Planning Department and copied to the office of the president, ministry of local government and lands, inspector general of police, solicitor general, CEO of KMC and department of land and surveys.
Some of the affected compounds are said to be constructed on water ways, and some of the inhabitants are alleged to have settled in some of the places illegally.
This decision by the Physical Planning comes on the heels of the heavy downpour of rains that inundated the area.
Below is the full text of the letter dispatched to compound owners by the Physical Planning Department;
Notice requiring removal or demolition of Building or Bill Board erected without a development permit or declared unsafe.
Take Notice that being satisfied that the building/fence, described below has been erected without a development permit and without a prior approval of the physical planning authority under development control regulations 1995/ declared as encroachment under the provisions of the development control regulation, 1995 and being empowered to order its removal or demolition under the provisions of the said regulation..
The planning authority orders for the removal or demolition of the building/fence/gate before 4th October 2010.
Take further notice that upon failure on your part to comply with this notice, the planning authority will arrange for the building/fence to be removed or demolished and charge the costs of such removal on demolition to you.

It would be great if any bantaba readers who have access to the internet or the online newspaper itself could take photographs of the structures in question,this would help any discussion on this topic,as communications may be difficult I won't hold my breath on pictures or video being posted any time shortly!
