Man jailed for attempting to bribe President Jammeh Africa » Gambia Monday, September 20, 2010 One Modou Sowe was on the 25th August 2010, sentenced to seven years in jail for attempting to bribe the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh with a plot of land in exchange of a job at State House, a press release from the presidency has revealed.
The release reads: The Office of The President is hereby informing the General Public that on the 25th of August 2010 one Modou Sowe in a letter addressed to His Excellency the President of the Republic attempted to bribe him with a plot of land in exchange for job at State House.
The culprit was subsequently charged and prosecuted under sections 364 and 360 of the criminal code cap 10, Volume 111, Laws of The Gambia, was convicted and sentenced to seven years for this contemptuous act of bribery.
The General Public is thereby strictly warned to desist from such practice, contrary to which the full force of the law will be applied as in this case. Author: Daily Observer
