I am human just like any human.
I have legs and hands and a head.
I have a brain too and flesh.
All human features of course I have them.

A stomach, I have one, for food,
But an empty stomach it always is.
The food is there somewhere.
I hear about it, at times I see it,
but cannot get it.

I have a nose to smell and
I do smell the goodness of life;
its foods, its drinks, its good times,
but that's about all I can get.

I get thirsty, extremely thirsty sometimes,
And I cannot have anything to drink.
I hear tidal waves clapping in the distance,
I see water flowing in rivers,
but I’m still thirsty.
I have to drink and eat to stay alive,
But most of the time
I don't have anything to drink or eat.
Even if I do, it is the wasted, the contaminated.

Don't blame me, I am a human and I have needs.
A need to sleep but don't have a place to sleep.
In the open spaces, I sleep;
In the cover of the moonlight and the sunlight,
In harm’s way.

I am human just like any human.
And my needs are never satisfied.
No food to eat, no water to drink,
No shelter to sleep in, no home to protect myself in,
No father to call papa, no mother to call mama,
No child to call son, no child to call daughter,
No one to call a friend, not even nature.

Everything I had is taken away.
My home, by flood,
My farm, by fire,
my parents, by sickness,
My children, by hunger
and yet I am human just like any human.

I have feelings and most of the time
I feel sadness and loneliness.
I feel danger around me all the times,
and safety, I feel that only in my imagination.

Like any human, I have wishes.
I wish I have a place to sleep,
I wish I have some food to eat,
I wish my parents are here,
And I wish my children are not gone.

I am human just like any human.
Sometimes I trust people and other times I don't.
I despise people for whose behaviors I get punished
And I hate people who punish me for others’ behaviors.

I want to love humans because I am human,
But not the humans that keep me humiliated.
I cannot love them that deny
My basic needs and my basic rights, for
I am human just like any human
.

Nice one! Sankahjang "I am Human " is deep as all humans have the right to the basic things in life food, clothes and shelter. However we human's can't be in control of circumatances outside of our control and nature is more powerful than Humans, and the Creature them both.

Peace

Superb poem,thanks.

sister O has made a valid observation on the meaning of the poem, and come to the same conclusion as I have.Others may have come to different conclusions on the meaning.

Thanks sister O and Toubab1020. Your interpretation of the poem is right for like you said we are not in control of nature and Cannot avoid what he decided to bring on us. However, I am not trying to question natures actions, but rather trying to acknowledge our inability as humans against the force of nature, at the same time I am trying to remind myself and perhaps those that read it that sometimes, some of our sufferings are due to the behavior of other humans. This poem came about as I was trying to put my feet in the shoes of people that are affect by many natural disasters around the world in addition to the many human disasters we already are suffering from.

I am new to this kind of writing and I appreciate your feedback. May the conditions of humans all over the world get better.
