A waste of time and money. Time and money are what Amadou Samba has, and what Freedom News (and editor Pa Nderry Mbai) may not have.
Amadou Samba almost by certainty, has no chance of prevailing in a U.S. court in a defamation case like this one. He is going to waste time and money in attorney fees and shuttling between the Gambia and U.S. But I am sure he has plenty of both, Time and Money.
I am however concerned that while Freedom News may have the law on its side, the cost of defending the lawsuit could be disastrous and could potentially cost the Freedom the verdict if adequate counsel is unaffordable. Unfortunately, Kayjatta has no licence to practice in North Carolina, so he cannot help...
But even if Amadou Samba prevails in court over Freedom, post-judgment recovery could be another challenge for him. Yet the victory, if it ever comes to that, for Mr. Samba will be a deadly blow to the Diaspora, and a big boost for Samba and his handler, the Jammeh govt.

Personally I think this is wonderful news that some one finally has the courage to sue PA. Decent Gambians have been under siege for far too long. It is highly unethical to slander decent people. General Kinteh should sue him for publishing unfounded stories about him.
Hopefully he will learn his lesson from this experience.

ahhhhh there we go again, maybe those guys who called pa to publish against Ousainou Darboe at the then signing of the failed MOU would this time come to his aid.As despite I like the fellow sometimes, he goes out of the ethics of professional journalism
I for one would not want to see Amadou Samba win this case against freedomnews paper or its editor as that same Amadou Samba is responsible for fueling the devil against his fellow citizens! I wish I can practice in the US. I would have defended Pa free of charge just to show Mr. Samba the US is not like the Gambia he helped Yahya Jammeh build!Alas that is how Africa is moulded and Gambia is no exception.

Amadou Samba (Daily Observer) & Pa Nderry Mbye (Freedom Newspaper) go a long way.
Is this the final showdown............................................................................................lol?

Gambia 30 May 2006
Online newspaper hacked, editor smeared and subscribers threatened
Reporters Without Borders voiced outrage today at an attempt to smear exiled Gambian journalist Pa Nderry Mbai, the editor of the online Freedom Newspaper, by hacking into his website and posting a false statement of allegiance to an associate of the president together with the names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of all its subscribers, describing them as “informers.”

The false declaration of allegiance and the names and details of the subscribers were subsequently published in Gambia in the pro-government Daily Observer, and were immediately followed by an announcement ordering all these “informers” to report to the police.

“This case of hacking is serious and revolting,” Reporters Without Borders said. “Not only was the reputation of a journalist besmirched but a large number of Internet users have been put in danger. And it is absolutely astounding that the Daily Observer became an accomplice by publishing the list of these so-called informers and describing them as ‘subversive’.”

Fine by me for Samba to loose the case and waste tons of dalasis in the process, but its good that such unethical reporting is finally challenge even weakly. Pa needs to know that he cant just go on insulting peoples intelligence by such nasty personal campaignes. Pa has what it takes to be a journalist within his fingers but now he needs to transform that into a mental comprehension of journalistic values.

It is the mark of intelligence to entertain an idea without accepting it.

Samba having to lose this case amounts to bigger loss than what is so far thinkable. Should Nderry Mbai win this case, the finacial stakes for Samba are higher. Not responding to the allegations also keeps bigger eyes and wider ears broadly opened on the big face of Gambia's cement factory proprietor, giant entrepreneur Amadou Samba "lingueur"

Bread man, will you still advise Samba to pursue this court? What is there for other business hands behind Samba's ventures?

Pa seems to be getting off lightly he's lucky that he hadn't been sued before or sued for much more. Well he's now experience baptistism through fire, maybe he should reflect on his Journalistic ethics. (I won't hold my breath)
