I have just been to Rome where I officially laid my complaint to the Pope and his crew about the child molestations and abuses going on throughout the world in the church. I told him that those who cannot abstain from intimacy should find themselves wives and husbands because that is the most natural.
I visited the Vatican Museum where there were exhibitions of fantastic paintings, sculptures, design and icons. I will share some videos later.

Pope begs forgiveness over abuse

The Pope made the vow during a homily on Friday in the Vatican [AFP]

Pope Benedict XVI has begged forgiveness from victims of child sexual abuse by Roman Catholic priests and promised the Church would "do everything possible" to ensure it never happened again.

Benedict made the vow during a homily on Friday in St Peter's Square, the Vatican, to end the Roman Catholic Church's "Year of the Priest" celebrations.

His comments were the clearest so far about the abuse scandal that has swept the Church around the world.

In his homily, Benedict lamented that during what should have been a year of joy for the priesthood the "sins of priests came to light - particularly the abuse of the little ones".

"We... insistently beg forgiveness from God and from the persons involved, while promising to do everything possible to ensure that such abuse will never occur again," he said.

Some 15,000 people from around the world celebrated the mass with the pontiff.

Church 'cover-up'

Hundreds of cases of sexual and physical abuse of youths in recent decades by priests have come to light in Europe and the United States as disclosures encouraged long-silent victims to finally go public with their complaints.

Late last year, Ireland was rocked by two successive reports revealing widespread abuse mainly of boys by priests going back decades, coupled with the Church hierarchy's complicity in covering it up.

Benedict, in his earlier roles as an archbishop in Germany and later in his tenure at the helm of the Vatican morals office, has been accused by victim support groups of being part of a systematic cover-up by the church hierarchy of suspected paedophile priests.

Earlier this year a story in the New York Times newspaper published internal church documents regarding a paedophile priest in the US, surrounding accusations that the Reverend Lawrence Murphy abused up to 200 deaf boys from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Among documents the New York Times posted on its website was a 1996 letter about Murphy to Benedict, then the Vatican's senior doctrinal official, showing he had been informed of the case.

Benedict's deputy first advised a secret disciplinary trial but dropped the plan in 1998 after Murphy appealed directly to him for clemency. Murphy died later that year.

The Vatican has reacted defiantly to the suggestion that Benedict had been involved in a cover-up of Murphy's paedophilia, dismissing the allegations as "petty gossip".

But some groups have demanded he take responsibility for the Vatican as an institution.

This is an extremly serious matter and it has without doubt been swept under the carpet by The Roman Catholic Church, hoping of course that it would go away, the harm that has been done to those who were victims of these men is incalculable. Those who did these vile crimes should be exposed and tried by the criminal courts in the land where the offences took place,an "investigation" and "trial" by the Church itself should not take place, this should be a matter for Police investigation.Saying Sorry and making an Apology is not good enough.
Victims need JUSTICE,and those responsible given punishment that fits the crime.
This article is from a newspaper that is not of "Christian leanings" and whoever from whatever racial group or whatever religion indulges in such unspeakable and vile crimes should be exposed and prosecuted by the judistiction of the courts of the land where the crime was committed and not dealt with by religious courts.

I think one of the biggest flaw in the religion of Catholicism that having a 'religious institution', the church. And 'religious personnel'. And worst, these religious personnel can't have an ordinary life i.e. finds a partner, have sex, have children, live in their home. These men have to stay in the church 24 hours, pray 24 hours, have boring life. It reminds me this great book by Umberto Eco, The name of the rose. Of course there will be abnormal sexual behavior like pedophilia or homosexual relationship.
While in Islam on the other hand, it followed the similar doctrine to have the class of religious institution ‘imam’ later years of the islam. Earlier years of Islam, having special profession ‘imam’ did not exist. Basically, the requirements of praying could have been done by yourself, if you have more than one person, more educated, older (I am not sure about the criteria but something like that) would lead the pray. When the religion became an ‘institution’ then the ‘power’ and ‘interest’ come to play as any organization. Having institution and the worse having a life style code not allowing: having family, living with your family, having sex; does not fit the human’s psychology and social needs.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.
