Rally Remembers Many Mysterious Lost Souls
By Saikou Jammeh

Opposition-United Democratic Party Saturday held a political rally in Serre kunda amid solemn reflection on sad memories about many Gambians who have disappeared untraced and died under mysterious circumstances under the current regime.

The meeting’s first point of reference was the Party’s own stalwart, Kanyi Ba Kanyi, who was allegedly arrested and detained since 2006, but the state denied allegations.

Mr. Gassama, UDP’s Brikama Nyambai candidate said the then Interior Minister Baboucarr Jatta has admitted ordering Kanyi’s arrest, asking "how could the state denied detaining him?"

Dembo Bojang alias Dembo by Force reminded the gathering that journalist Chief Ebrima Manneh of the Daily Observer also went missing since 2006 and is yet to be seen. He said the state is accused of detaining him and was sued to the ECOWAS court which ruled in favour of the journalist, but the government is yet to act on the verdict.

Dembo took a trip down the memory lane bringing to the fore the mysterious death of former finance minister, Ousman Koro Ceesay who was found dead in the burnt- out wreckage of his car in 1995. "The state promises to investigate his death, but have done nothing so far impressive," Dembo said.

He went on to inform the meeting of the alleged disappearances of Messrs Daba Marena, former NIA Director General, Lieutenant Alieu Ceesay, Alpha Bah, Sergeant Malafi Corr and Lieutenant Ebou Lowe all officers, who are alleged to be part of the 2006 abortive coup.

The Gambian government earlier claimed that Daba Marena and Co escaped after the car they were travelling crashed on their way to the Janjangbureh jail house.
