Green leaves on a tree
Signal health and promise of fruits
Thus we look for flowers to sprout
Followed by fruits of our dreams
That is the way of nature

Green leaves on my tree
Sat so very green
Giving me hope
Yet I despair
For no flower
Sprung from the buds
All I get to see is bugs
Creeping on the limbs

Green leaves on the neighbour's tree
Sprouted blossoming flowers
To my envious views
Leading to fruition
A sweet harvest
Which I only watched from afar
Oh fate that deals that hand
Why dost thou do me so
With a jealous mien
I sit and wish
Unrequited

Green leaves on other trees
Held their promises true
But mine failed me
So I bowed my head in shame
Broken hearted and lost
I cry my self to sleep
Hoping to dream
Sweet dreams of a goodly harvest
Yet even my dreams showed
Green leaves on a healthy tree
Being consumed by greedy worms

Welcome back Kaaniba. A very poignant poem... touching indeed.

Surah- Ar-Rum 30-22
"And among His signs is the creation of heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. verily, in that are indeed signs for men of sound knowledge." Qu'ran

Thanks Santa, the old African saying goes that the old dog sat ignoring the bone but this shouldn't be interpreted to mean that this dog does not want that bone again, any move to take it by another dog would reveal the fact that it had its eyes pegged on for good measure. I was away but my heart is with the Bantaba Forum , I shall always be a contributor one way or the other as long as I live. Long live freedom of speech , long live bantaba in cyberspace , long live the people of The Gambia.

Thanks again brother for your kind support and most of all your contributions on this forum. Surely no one can say you ignored your country in its time of need , you are one of those wonderful brothers here on this side of River Jordan whose hearts bleed for those who are down there in Su-Gambia enduring the hassles of a despotic ruler. Abaraka Baakeh , enimbaara!

There is nothing better for us to do today than sticking with our roots. We are bless to have men like you. Furnish us more poems.
