Just booked to come back to The Gambia in November and having tried in vane to find a cheap flight, have gone with Thomas Cook.At least the price was not too much over-the-top compered with Gambia Experience! We fly from Gatwick, but the choice of airlines are reducing all the time. How can GE who promote the country explain their prices.....!

I suppose its a case of economics, after all they are the only tour operator with direct flights to The Gambia all the year around from the UK,they are not a scheduled airline but charter their planes from various providers. If you do not use Gambia experience out of season, see how much others charge to fly to the Gambia from UK with the changes that you would have to make to get from a UK airport to Gambia.

If you want to fly in May 2010 then take a look at this for one week;

I think that Gambia Experience quote reasonable fares bearing in mind the above.

I've travelled with Gambia experience and found them very professional and helpful.
Equally I've taken a cheap flight and taken a chance and basically been on my own! this has been fine because I know the country, but wouldn't recommend it to a first timer.
I think you pay your money and take your choice. It depends how much you want to pay and how much service you need.

Thanks for the feedback, I must own up and say that although I have been a Bantaba member for several years, this is my first posting. I was so incensed at the lack of flights etc that I just had to let rip!
Have been travelling to and from The Gambia for around ten years, and if we can afford it two or three times a year, it is so annoying to see the recent lack of interest in what is a fantastic country. The travel agents in my neck of the woods have done little to promote Gambia in the last two years, all you seem to see are trips to Sharm and of course Dominican Republic.
Now I have said my piece and posted it, I hope to continue with some further postings ..... not just about this subject!!

Hope you do keep posting even if you don't , here is a very good place to get information, there is usually someone who can answer all sorts of questions ranging from religious ones to the intracicies of obtaing a work permit or some other official bit of paper to come to the UK, I am sure that you will agree that here in the UK we have many opportunities to travel that are often not available to peoples of other countries.

Brufutboy I really wish you would post more. We need more people to open up the discussions.
Do you stay in Brufut when you go to Gambia? Do you know people there?

Perhaps you could tell us more about the Ghanian's fishing community?

Do you go to Diana nursery at all?

Its a very friendly place.

Thanks gambiabev for the welcome. Yes I do know lots of people in Brufut. My family and I have a place on the edge of the village, close to the beach. We have been building since 2004. The idea was to have a small bar/restaurant, not to make money for ourselves, but to provide people with work and a chance to have some self-respect for themselves. Too many rely on sitting about waiting for handouts. This way they get a chance for a career. Here is our website: http://www.theplantationgambia.com/
We started in the Gambia staying at Palma Rima, then moving on to local accomodation. At the same time we were involved with charity work, but concerned that some of the goods and money were not going to the intended poor and needy, so we bought a land rover and took rice, oil, clothes etc into the bush for the people who really need help. We have been doing this ever since and it works alongside our Plantation developments very well.
And yes we have been watching the Ghanatown people slowly moving out and the fishing business declining. It is a great shame. Our land is only a few minutes walk away and they seem a very friendly community, always waving and greeting us on our visits.
Haven't been to the nursery itself but we have assisted some of the families.

Great job, what a lovely place you have built, you have made yourselves part of the community a very important aspect of any enterprise that is undertaken in The Gambia,I think that your website is excellent and planned with a great deal of thought, any questions that could be asked are answered .You have clearly stated the prices that you charge is great, so often this important factor in any holiday is "overlooked",the fact that you are providing much needed jobs to the area is a big bonus, jobs are scarce in Gambia. The best of luck for your future development, and I hope that many bantaba readers will stay in your place for a few days when they visit The Gambia.

It is very sad to hear that you confirm what I had heard about Ghanatown shrinking. I love their fishing boats with the Christian quotes painted on the sides..

Your business looks great, perhaps I will come and visit one day.
