Is it really religious or tribal? |
diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

According to the U tube commentry, when the people alleged to have been responsible were questioned their answer was that these atrocities were commited by "men from outside the area".I think that there are those who hold fanatical religious views, BUT I think that what is more likley is that this horror has occoured at this time not generated by religious fanatics but by others, why ? simple OIL which means MONEY,there is a great deal of speculation available on this subject people have even recently written complete books.I know nothing about Nigerian topics, here is just one link that could provide a clue to why this horror is happening now.

Is religion to blame ? no body can know for certain BUT ,what a great way to make different religions fight amongst each other and distabilise the country.

Toubab, there is no oil in Northern Nigeria. I think it is both ethnic and Religious.
This is the source:
Horror of Nigeria clashes uncovered
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/africa/2010/01/201012333947758520.html
Hundreds of people have died in violence between Muslims and Christians in northern Nigeria.
The clashes began on Sunday in the city of Jos, but later spread to the countryside.
Al Jazeera has obtained evidence that suggests the bloodshed from ethnic and religious violence could be greater than feared.
Our news team filmed bodies dumped in wells and saw the corpses of children.
Al Jazeera's Andrew Simmons travelled to the village of Kuru Jantar, just outside of Jos, where locals told him about what they are calling a massacre.
Thousands homeless
The violence has also left up to 18,000 people homesless.
There are conflicting reports about what triggered the violence. But some residents say the clashes started due to a dispute over the building of a mosque.
Jos and other central and northern areas in Nigeria have been plagued by religious violence in recent years.
In November 2008, hundreds of people were killed in Jos in two days of fighting triggered by a rumour that the mainly Muslim All Nigerian Peoples Party had lost a local election to the Christian-dominated People's Democratic Party.

Momodou,I for one do not doubt the reports of the killings, horrific, inexcusable ,what I was pointing out that "someone" was maybe inflaming this horror for reasons other than religion I accept that I am no expert but searching around there appears to be people who think that oil may be present,a quote from my link above
" Search for oil in Northern Nigeria has always stirred emotions and a hint of politics. The effort by the YarAdua-led NNPC to resume the search after previous failed attempts may attract various interpretations. NNPC has yet to articulate strategic reasons for the new search and the huge expenditure. YarAdua, in Maiduguri, ventured an explanation to the Shehu of Borno, Dr. Mustapha Umar El Kanemi. According to YarAdua, “because oil has been found in commercial quantities in Chad, Niger and Central African Republic, all neighbours of Borno, for sure it will be found in Borno.”

I think these comments are relevant under this topic; "Director of the group Dr. Is-haq Akintola said in his Maulud Nabiyy Nigerians should stop creating artificial disasters like religious intolerance, ethnic jingoism, political thuggery and hooliganism among other vices, with their own hands."

Police arrested in Nigeria killings
The video shows security officers shooting a number of unarmed men [Al Jazeera] Seventeen Nigerian security officers are reported to have been arrested in the country's north in connection with a series of extra-judicial killings caught on video obtained by Al Jazeera earlier this month.
The footage shows officers killing unarmed men, who were bound and forced face-down on the street, in the aftermath of clashes with members of a Muslim group in the country's north. Read more at: http://english.aljazeera.net/news/africa/2010/02/201022820193376744.html |
