This from the Observer,what does this defendant want ? Is this unusual in the Gambian court system?

Barkun has informed Justice Joseph Wowo of the High Court in Banjul that both the state and the defence counsel have liaised with the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Marie Saine Fridaus, on plea bargain issue in the criminal trial of the former director general of the Gambia Tourism Authority (GTA), Habib Drammeh.
Principal State Counsel, Barkun said a memo has been written to the Attorney General whose response is still being awaited. The former GTA director general, Habib Drammeh, is standing trial on ten counts of criminal offence, including giving false information to a public servant, economic crime, and theft, among others. The accused was alleged to have written a petition on January 12, 2005, titled: #145;Petition for reinstatement as Director General of Gambia Tourism Authority#146;, to President Yahya Jammeh, as a public servant alleging wrongful suspension.
In the letter, the accused alleged that the independent audit investigation commissioned by the board cleared him of any wrongdoing, when he knew it to be false, and urged the president to reinstate him. The accused was further alleged to have approved the payment of D450,000.00 from the funds of GTA to Home Finance Mortgage Company Ltd for the settlement of his personal housing loan debt without the knowledge, disclosure, consent or authorization of the board, between 2002 and December 2003 in Kololi, KSMD. Principal state counsel, S.H. Barkun however told the court that both parties are currently working on modalities with the Attorney General and Minister of Justice on the plea bargain issue.
