It was fairly quietly spent in Kotu - usually (well - the other times I've been) there is a bit more fuss but this year there was just some fireworks and a bit of drumming and dancing inside the Hotel. Some Gambian friends came to see me and we watched it together but there was no band out in the street and no crowd as there have been in previous years.
Infact it was really quiet generally throughout Christmas and New Year - quite worrying for all concerned from the taxi drivers and hotel staff right down to the bumsters - not enough tourists to go around ... someone told me that capacity was down by 30% on last year and I can easily believe that ......
