Tobaski Is Friday 27
The President of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC), Alhagie Mahamadou Lamin Touray has said that by the grace of Allah, Tobaski will be observed on Friday 27th November 2009.
The GSIC President disclosed this during an interview with this paper yesterday.
According to him, they have not received any information throughout the country regarding the sighting of the moon on Thursday.
Consequent upon this, he said the feast would be observed on the
27th which falls on the tenth day of "Banna," a month when Muslims observe Tobaski.
He also revealed that they have clear information that Saudi Arabia will observe Tobaski on this very day. He said the fact that there is very little time between The Gambia and Saudi, the day would be equally observed on the same day here.
"I read 15 Islamic books that all state that when one Muslim country pronounced that they have seen the moon and the other country didn't have much time difference with them they must also pray," said GSIC President.
He called on Muslims across the country to pray on the 27th being the day set aside by the Supreme Islamic Council.
He maintained that the celebrations of feasts like Tobaski or Koriteh are determined by the sighting of the moon.
