Former Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago, Basdeo Panday, was found guilty last week of failing to declare a London bank account to the Trinidad & Tobago Integrity Commission.
He failed to declare a London bank account for 1997/98/99.
Basdeo Panday who ran for two terms as Prime Minister was given a six-year prison sentence - two years for every count. He was fined $60,000 and a $1.6m forfeiture. Failing to pay the fine will result in him serving an additional three years. He was ordered to pay $1.6m to the state.
He violated an Act that he passed in Parliament when he was Prime Minister to protect the public from thieving politians.
