Monday, 09 November 2009
Gibril Bojang, the embattled former State Guard Commander was last Friday convicted and sentenced to two years' imprisonment on each of the two counts of theft, by Magistrate Emmanuel Nkea of the Banjul Magistrates' Court.

Mr. Bojang, who pleaded guilty to two counts of theft, was also ordered to pay D1, 110. 086 to Kanilai Family Farms, in default to serve another two year's imprisonment.

Both sentences are to run concurrently.

Mr. Bojang informed the court that he had already deposited D25, 500 before Friday's court sitting. He also informed the court that the said monies were not used for personal gain, but the welfare of his unit.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, Gibril Bojang in the months of May and June 2009, at State House and diverse places fraudulently converted the sum of D380, 750 to the use of other persons, being the property of Kanilai Family Farms.

While count two stated that Gibril Bojang in the same months and year, at State House in the city of Banjul and diverse places with intent to steal, fraudulently converted the sum of D721, 056, to other uses being the property of Kanilai Family Farms.
