On the original topic, where ever there are men prepared to pay for sex, there will be women prepared to offer a service!
This profession is as old as man.
In an ideal world it wouldn't exisit. Everyone would be paired up in loving and caring relationships.
If the women enters into in as a free person, fair enough...but often the women are refugees, trafficked, or drug addicts.....
Is the women the criminal or the man that pays her???? Personally I think the man is taking advantage of a women in this situation. Perhaps men should be sent to prison for using prostitutes?!
In Gambia I would like to see the prostitutes operating from safe houses, not the streets. I'd like them to have tests regularly for HIV etc...... I'd like the men to have to pay them a decent amount of money!!!!

The ideal world just does not exist and never will, although as you say"In Gambia I would like to see the prostitutes operating from safe houses, not the streets. I'd like them to have tests regularly for HIV etc...... I'd like the men to have to pay them a decent amount of money!!!! " Do you really think that the women would get a fair deal ? I personally doubt it very much, such establishments would become just another business opportuntity for rich men.

Bev
snuggels I wish I had your money for travelling! Perhaps one day!!!!
I worked hard for many years until I retired to save to do what Im doing now So maybe one day Bev Its not so expensive as you think Just over a £1000 for 6 flights Gambia £675 2 fights for a 3 month ticket Also I don’t book thru a travel Agent I do it all on line and book Guest Houses or Lodges which are much cheaper I rarely stay in a hotel
Do you go to these places to visit family or friends or as a tourist? Do you travel with family or a partner or alone? Yes I have friends in America Australia so I try and fit them in on my travels also in Gambia and Gahna
Do you do any charity in any of these places? No I don’t work for a charity. But the only countries I have really been charitable in are the various West African countries I have been to of giving money to charities or to the poor and cripples or families I feel need help Having said that it has crossed my mind to do such work as you get to see different countries and cultures and your flight and food is supplied by the charity
Gambia and its people really touched my heart, but I haven't been for two years and I am not sure when I will return. I miss it, but the world is getting smaller and there are lots of other places to visit that are equally interesting to me...... While not much to see or do in Gambia compared to other countries I think the average Gambian to be warmhearted and friendly. I have made many friends there over the years
Back to topic I’ve heard all that has been said and the pit falls my opinian is that it should be legislated to run brothels to the benefit of all concerned it works in other countries.

Hey Moe, we have just got information today (from court documents ) that these girls are in fact Gen. Tamba's girls. They have been on the loose since Gen. Tamba lost his job as the Army Chief . |

I know Moe, but remember he is a General. What else would qualify him for a General? I guess he has to have his own small force.... It is just sad that our some decent innocent girls have to go down with him . Yiri baa boyeta, kuno lu janjang taa ...

The following is culled from Point Online
35 Women Acquitted, Discharged Thursday, 12 November 2009
Principal Magistrate Joseph Ikpala of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court yesterday acquitted and discharged all the 35 women charged with rogue and vagabond behaviour on the grounds that "the alleged offence does not contain the joiner as a justifiable offence."
The ruling that saw the acquittal of all the accused persons was as a result of the objections raised by the Defence Counsel, Janet Sallah, who is the President of the Female Lawyers Association of The Gambia (FLAG) concerning accused number 32 who is a minor.
Mrs. Sallah Njie argued that a child within the means of the Children Act was wrong to be charged with adults.
She submitted further that "for anybody charged under this Section must consistently found in such places poising as a nuisance."
The accused persons who all pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them were purported to have been found at different locations in a manner that led to the presumption that they were soliciting men for prostitution.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused persons, comprising both Gambian and foreigners, were picked up from Bertil Harden Highway and different places within the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) loitering about.
