Bro Kaanibaa,

I wish I didn't hve to translate these rich proverbs, matter of fact each of them stands a lone. The poem is loaded to the brim. This was how Hampateh Ba, championed traditional culture as a literary mind. Thanks for the corrections.

In anyways, 2bab, I am glad you like it. As time permits me, I will deal with the proverbs one by one. Please take the corrections submitted by the author.

thanks,
yj

You guys give my soup the richness we all miss, it inspires me and I thank you for that too. An old African proverb says that one hand cannot clap and he who drums needs clappers , singers and dancers to complete the show.I wait to read bro Daltons additional comments on the proverbs.

Review of some common local proverbs . Bro Kanibaa, It was nice to see these proverbs added to your poem. It goes a long way revealing that ours is a rich culture.

Stanza 3
quote:
Hakilo lekah nyambo sing
Sondomeh tantangho
Meng ka wodong

Lest you want to loose the cassava/yam roots (food) to the ground, you need to exercise caution in uprooting it; simply to say use "common sense" as a guide in life. The ground digger is just a tool. It is common sense that dictates the uprooting.

Stanza 2
quote:
Jee kensengho buka kumoo

In a typical traditional life, folks believe in charms (safara/jujus). To say "ordinary water doesn't get sour" means that you need something as a backing to succeed. Some believe that you need charms to succeed in real life. Either way, I am in agreement that one needs God in anything -to succeed.

Stanza 3
quote:
Nii yamoye hum
Asunkantaleh

It means if people are murmuring or rumoring about something, there are some things to the story in existence.
