This report from the newcomer the Daily news, PROGRESS ?
Poverty is Still High By Saikou Jammeh
The Director General of National Planning Commission, Mr. Abdou Touray has remarked that while the The Gambia is six years away from the Millennium Development Goal target of 2015 and mid-year in the implementation stage of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper PRSP 2, the level of poverty is still high.
According to him though access to some basic social services are high, major challenges still exist in other sectors such as basic health and education. He added that evidence has shown that declining purchasing power for majority of citizens largely due to employment and high levels of income poverty.
Mr. Touray was speaking during the mid-term review of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper 2 on Wednesday at Kairaba Beach Hotel aimed to take stock of achievements and shortfalls on the journey towards attaining the goals of the PRSP and MDGs amid stakeholders from both pubic and private sector as well as development partners in attendance.
The mid-term review according to Mr. Touray is also an important stage for brainstorming on the Vision 2020 and the overall socio-economic development of the country.
Half-way on the journey towards the set targets to reduce poverty; he said it is crucial to assess the development. “We should ask ourselves where we are. Where do we want to go? How do we get there and how do we know we got there?” he said.
He described the brainstorming exercise as refreshing bearing in mind that it is taking place at a time when world leaders are meeting at UN headquarters in discussing matters relevant to poverty, MDG and development financing particularly for poor countries.
Alluding that two annual reports highlighted some useful achievement as well as shortfalls, this review he said will be a window for adjustments on national development agenda.
The revised PRSP 2 he told participants will be the main national socio-economic development agenda for the 2009-2011 and serve as the single integrated national program planning and funding framework for the Gambia.
He noted that the mid term review was launched on June 16 2009, thus the formation of the joint monitoring and planning committee and the thematic review working groups is another important step in the review process.

Moe I refer you to the second paragraph where the author writes thus:
"According to him though access to some basic social services are high, major challenges still exist in other sectors such as basic health and education. He added that evidence has shown that declining purchasing power for majority of citizens largely due to employment and high levels of income poverty."
These words are surely enough to raise everyones concern.
Not yours though Moe but I thank you for taking the trouble to actually read what the author wrote.
