It's true that journalists shouldn't come under so much harrassment.

I would like to know whether the strategy that Darboe took 5 years ago was done in the interest to save his own skin, as we have seen recently when he separated from NADD or was it done in the interests of the Gambia people? Darboes politics seems if you can't win then don't take responsibility, change the rules of the game and play "the blame card."

Darboe must of been the only opposition leader who ran away sulking from a post because his party didn't when forgetting his responsibility to represent all those people who took time to support him. What can 2-4 people on the opposition benches to stop any bill going through the NAMS.

Of course Darboes's strategy was designed to lay a sneer for Jammeh because Darboe decided not to play ball by taking his seat in National Assembly by using his power to do nothing than cast blame. It's called not taking responsibility, whereas Halifa Sallah has more sense to argue his points and to educate people at the same tme about their political rights.

It was not really a suprise that a foil coup took place when over the net for years members on different forums have been encouraging one. And as I was there in Gambia at the time of the foiled coup most of the population was oblivious to it until it came on the news. Everyone one was going about there normal business.

As I said five years ago the opposition let Gambia down by not participating in the democratic process. When you consider how many millions of African people have died throughout the centuries being denied the vote and then for the right to vote. In 2001 Darboe decided to throw away his voters votes. On the back of him doing so came through the media Commission Bill because that was the only mouth piece open for the opposition. It's an incredible situation when the fouth Estate replaces the NA. It's like The Daily Mail being substituted for the British Conservative Party. The fouth Estate was not designed for that role, and unfortunately has been pushed and manipulated unwittingly into that position as a result of the vacuum left by the opposition, who in turn have milked this strategy applying international pressure where possible again the three demons of corruption, greed and envy raise their heads as no side is totally squeaky clean. let's hope the climate of reconcillation continues to hold for Gambia is too small for civil war and may peace rein forever in Gambia.

I hope at the next election that whatever the political party colour at Statehouse that NA is filled with the representatives of the Gambian electorate.

Peace

Thanks for taking up Daboe's blame card strategy, which many analists refuse to put their finger on.

There are so many hypocritical intelectuals who would submerge us with volumes of analitical thesis but the problem is that many among them are just harboring the common arrogance of the so-called learned with a special status. This why why many have become silent since this guy withdrew from NADD.

They, instead of subscribing to NADD's approach which is to assure and clarify to the masses that severeignty resides with them and it is only they who should decide the fate of the nation.

These intelectuals engage themselves in an enterprise to continue alienating the masses by pounding us with a reconciliation and re-unification non-negotiation inorder to even delay the NADD campaign even more than the two years that they have already waisted.

Instead of convincing ourselves and the general masses in self-liberation and empowerment, many among us concentrate on convincing the people that power resides with Darboe because he has thrown wild un-subtantial claims of having the majority, without a defined program or manifesto.

The only point I partially agree with you is that Darboe cannot carry the bulk of the blame for the boycott of the last NA election which has resulted in the dominance of the APRC. The people had an alternative if they were progressive, to vote for the PDOIS. Most people would tell you the the PDOIS has a good program and is run by a group of competen, sincre and patriotic people but the question is, why don't they vote for people with such good attributes?

Is it because the masses want to remain in a system based on corruption, deception, dictatorship and mutual manipulation? Or what do they want?

Omega & Uncle Biraago,

This is not the kind of topic to get a hundred rejoinders here. I must hail Omega for her close observation at our national assembly, though, quite honestly, had always read Omega on the side of the APRC. This is probably the way, she put her arguements here always. For one, i respect her political opinion, which is a requirement for democracy. Most of the times, i don't tend to blame her, cos i am of the view that it is someone who is not aware of what is happening in our country. other times, i just wish this lady could take a break, and come back fresh. Her pieces on gender, and other areas are always great, and she quite honestly carries love for Africans, and this she demonstrated by being around us.

The point she made on the disintegration of the opposition, leading to the alleged coup, is to me a valid point, which was my utterance the very day after the coup d'tat. Also, the biggest mistake ever made was to allow that national assembly to be occupied by only APRC candidates, whether this was based on any calculated destruction, or based on any form of boycot activism, it seems to help the tyrannical adminstration dwell more in passing more oppressing laws.

While we are withnessing history in the making, i hope Nadd, which we are all supporting now will continue to demontrate ability, to unite, and reconcile all Africans, not only Gambians. In the era of activism we are, it is hard to differentiate political activism, and journalism. To me, they go hand in hand. As ethical as a journalist want to be, we won't hesitate to analyse situations and give a credit where a credit is due.

It is my contention and firm believe that intellectuals must always develop strategies to handle issues at hand, but unfairness will always snatch away credits earned. I am really glad that every one is shouting Nadd. I share their views that Nadd is the true vine, and let us all hold onto it with all our strength and might. We must also put in mind, national interest supersedes anything else. Some individual supporters are not seeing the whole point, instead they are also point fingers, and twisting the game.

Omega, i must say, this is one other piece where you showed your love for Africans, not because you mentioned a name that i am known for critising for his decision to quit Nadd, from the very early stages, but for the points you scored above.

I hope and pray that both Hamat and Darboe will rejoin Nadd, and ask for forgiveness for the last minute withdrawal from the alliance, just to make the Nadd victory multiplied. This is only possible when those rallying behind Darboe and Hamat can pressurize on them, to bring to full awareness, unity will lead us to redeem our nation.

More to follow...

Dalton in a mature democracy criticial thinking is necessary the development of a country stretches wider than political afilliation. Each person has a contribution to play in nationbuilding sometimes its important to think out of the box because boxes require limited thinking Gambia needs the participation of its people regardless of how they choose to vote. It is the Gambian system which needs an overehaul regardless who is head of state they will inherit that system which assist in stifling social mobility. Changing a leader without radically changing the efficiency and effectiveness of the system will not be effective.Whether one likes or not Jammeh has turned Gambia's class system upside down and inside out and has made some progress along the way. There is no room for complacency for everyone has a role to play for inclusion and unity will make Gambia's progress more balanced and swifter. Setting Agendas, formulating implementing projects is one thing but monitoring and evaluating them is another and if anything this is the weakness of the Gambian System and this is whee corruption seeps in.

Dalton I feel that on this forum we get too stuck into adversal western parliamentarian politics remincient of the colonialist era. time has changed so tactics need to change African needs to innovate its own systems of goverance.

Sister Omega,

Good points as usual. Keep informing us.

Dalton,

With respect brother, Kwame Nkrumah was the first GREAT MEGALOMANIAC and failure of African Leadership. Most of us don't really know the inside story of this Mad Man's behaviour ... do you know for example that he BANLRUPHTED Ghana just to host HIS OAU Summit? Just like Jammeh is about to do to The Gambia? Do you know that Nkrumah establish a ONE-PARTY State and locked up Dankuah, the man who gave Nkrumah his first job when he came back from England? Please research your history, otherwise we will make the same mistakes all over again.

I agree that policies, rules and ways of governance need to be dynamic, to reflect the ways of lives of people in any geographical location, especially with the world of ours that is not stagnant. Western policies, where is common to all, is also applicable. In that way, it doesn't mean they are western, then it is African. It is also certain that what we need today is not only a change of leadership, but a system change. Probably, what would be a fundamental basis for arguement is the level to which terror ascended in the past 11 years, such only at the feet of no one other than the Jammeh brads. The Gambia was never there. It is an expectation of any with a human feeling to understand the ongoing trauma, which is why a lot of hearts are bleeding. I know you have rejoinder to the poem.

Adbou Joof, get your rejoinder of Dr. Krumah to the Krumah debate. We will add some lines on it.
