Prince, the ID card has a finger print. I asked the person whom I saw the ID card with if his finger print was taken and he answered in the negative. This made me believe that it was taken without his knowledge because the card was showing a finger print. The Immigration control has finger print scanners at the Airport but I did not see them being used. However, I know someone whoes finger print was taken during departure last April. That was perhaps the testing phase.
Thanks Momodou, the airport finger scanning has nothing to do with the new IDs. Mr. Jammeh introduced that in response to what he perceived as western governments (the US in particular) active pursuit of humiliating of his functionaries.
He did not like the idea of his officials being subjected to finger scans, and on some occasions, refused visas. This made him to take the retaliatory approach of finger-scanning foreigners.
Prince,I read what you say, you are obviously a person who knows what he is writing about, can you provide a link we could read which would give more information on what you have written above?

LOL Toubab, you really like to get the facts straight...

http://thepoint.gm/africa/gambia/article/2008/3/26/gambia-govt-reacts-to-unequal-visa-procedure
The government of The Gambia has strongly reacted to the visa procedure of certain countries, saying that Gambian visa applicants have been singled out for finger printing. In what appears to be a retaliatory measure, the Gambia government revealed that it has instructed Gambian missions overseas and other Gambian visa issuing authorities to begin subjecting citizens of the countries concerned to the same treatment.
According to a press release from the Department of State for Foreign Affairs read over GRTS yesterday, it has been brought to the attention of the government that certain countries tend to single out Gambian visa applicants for finger printing and other degrading treatment. This reaction, the release added, is in order to safeguard the dignity of Gambian citizens. |
