Can someone provide a broader explanation of this common fula word. I show it being use some where, but the explanation was not what i assume it to be.
I presume teedun gal is a fula word for: entertianing a guest in the highest level. this could mean according a special privilage for the guest. But i may be wrong. the fulbe futa for instance are said to refer to teedun gal when a special guest is entertained.
i hope young Dalton help me.

Uncle Suntou,

Spot on the usage of the word. It's usage and meaning goes beyond can be expressed in translation in other languages. The closest in meaning, "terangha" in wollof, "Horohmah" in Mandinka, "honour" in english, "kaa buunyaa" in Jola etc...

2bab,

That book once ready will be a nice read. Jokes aside, I don't think he is writing a book on it.

Thanks Dalton, i thought so. Toubab, oh no, i leave the fulbe language book to more capable hands. Young Dalton or our scholar Madiba are more capable in fulfiling such aspirations. I hope we try decomenting our languages.

Santa, my Fula is getting pretty weak, but the word literally means "honorary welcome." the acts entails giving your guest a privileged treatment that you normally won't enjoy on your own. I believe that acts like ted'dugal contributed significantly to our easy colonization. The closest mandinka translation would be buu-nyaa.

Santa, here is my take,..... my Foula is very limited

Teedina = to honour, to respect

Teeding nīgol = honouring(celebratory)

Teedun gal, ted n'dugal = (Object/ item/thing) = the symbol of honour; (a cow, cola nuts, hen, goat etc. )

Well...........

Santa, thanks

Translation is complicated and "the context" should be central, hence the abstraction levels between western and our languages are far apart.

Janko, couldn't agree more, many differences exist between "cultures" and what is normal in one can easily be taken as offensive in the other, you have to be quite careful what you say and what you do,as words and actions can be interpreted very differently.
