folks firstly let me make it clear that I am not a Mandinka by tribe, I am a serere and a a proud one for that case, but proud in a sense that the whole word is a combination of defferent races, tribes, religion but all are human and thats what matters as far as I am concern, but we can all be proud of where we belong and let others too take pride in what they belong. The Gambia is not an exception to these division and what the priority should be is the emphasizing our pride as a nation, rather than a sick president sidelining a particular tribe when addressing issues of national concern. I am always concern when issues of tribaliasm is surfaced in our dear monther land hence i am aware of the negative catastrophic impacts tribalism can effect on a nation.we don't want another Ruwandan genocide again in Africa and for Allah's shake is about time this NON WITTY president stop inflicting tribal hatred in The Gambia. The presidents claim that the Mandikas form the largest deportees is stupid to use that as a justification of the killing spree his government has embarked upon since coming to power, after all the Mandikos constitutes 40 percent of the population, so its only statistically reseasonable to have them the lagest number of immigrants from the Gambia, just as the number of nigerian immigrants from africa as a whole reflects the size and population of nigeria in africa .But does that reflect its stance that mandinkas are abroad in their large numbers because they hate his government or Does it justify his guilt that majority of all his death victims are from the mandika tribe. Its a justification of the latter, and that he is a tribalist president .Mr president the question is where is those disappeared journalist who are picked up in a broad daylight from their now orphant kids by your NIA agents,Gambians are not stupid and the last story we will take is your caliam that they are drowned in the sea try to get to europe,Go to hell with that robbish claim Mr President.

One reason why Jammeh thinks Jolas are ripe to fight Mandinkas and being able to kill them all in a possible war on Gambian soil is simple. He commands the guns and issued out to Jolas leaving all other ethnics clearly disarmed. That is no secret. He has been tormenting Gambians beyond the limit. He is now ready to kill in public. The only way of doing so is to declare war.
Guns in the hands of Jolas to kill Gambians may not fall on the skins of Mandinkas alone as some people may want to believe. When Jammeh breaks war in Gambia, he will not stand it. He will surely run away. That will end his rule but many will die. Lot of Jolas too will die just like Serrer, Fula, Wollof, Sarahulle, and Manjago.
Jammeh makes it sound like by particular mention of Mandinkas all other ethnic groups will stand in soildarity with him.
Truly stating, Mandinkas are the most politically fair and tolerant people in Gambia. Many proofs are there to back that.
Being in power for all the 30 years, Jawara has not played the Mandinka card. In fact he did not marry one Mandinka. In politics, he dished out all the good posts to other tribes with Mandinkas blaming him for sidelining them. Perhaps he knew in advance that one day this talk would creep up, and now here we are. The biggest opposition force during Jawara days were Mandinkas. Where then is the hate for tribe? Mandinkas will challenge any political order that fails to serve well. That's what they did with Jawara (their own.) When Jammeh misrules, it is normal that enlightened politically assertive Mandinkas will rise to challenge him. Where they have not taken it from Jawara, how much of a brutal person can Jammeh be to spare him?
Jammeh has no score to settle with the Mandinkas. He has to face the Wollofs and other tribes who enjoyed the best from Jawara and some of whom still want to dine with Jammeh in his bid to wage a tribal war on Mandinkas.
Where are the children of all those other tribes whose people enjoyed everything from the Jawara era? It has has been them whose good life was snatched away by the insensitive Yaya Jammeh. Yet he makes things look like it has been the Mandinkas whose 'government' was toppled.
Let Jammeh not think that he is able to fool Gambians. Let him produce the bodies of those he killed. Jammeh is fond of playing cards to distract attention from real issues.
The real issue is that Mr Jammeh offended whole of Gambia by wilful raping of our good democracy. Now he wants us to accept that as normal. No, Jammeh, you are wrong.
It is up to Gambians to accept being fooled over and over. What will the rest of us do when all the Mandinkas are killed by the Jola gun men of Gambia's army?
One thing is certain. When all the Mandinkas are dead by gun power, the next most populated and influential tribe will face the firing board.
The Jola gun men from Cassamance have no sympathy for Gambians. They will kill anyone, including those who now think it is the Mandinkas at gun point of ruthless Jola killers in army uniform.
When war breaks in Gambia, many people will regret. |

Dembish,
As a proud serere myself - just like you, I echo everything you have said. Similar discussions about this very issue has been raised before on bantaba and I have always maintain that, unless this man gets out of office, Gambia is heading for a civil war based on tribalism. He wants to divide the people of the Gambia, and instead of stopping innocent peope dying, unite the people and help develop a better Gambia for our descendants and if I may be so bold a better Senegambia, he wishes to inflict missery and apport blame. I really hope it will never happen on Gambian soil, but I sense the likelihood of tribal war is imminent on the land unless this man steps down.
This man has no respect or love for the Gambia or Senegambia. He wishes to destroy everything our forefathers fought for. Jawara with all his faults, no one can accuse him of such a thing. Jawara was a member of the council of Gambians that lobbied the British to get our independence. Further, although Jawara's wifes were not Mandinka as Karamba rightly noted, at least his wifes were of Senegambian descent. The same cannot be said for this man who is supposed to lead the country and set an example. People may think I am racist, no! It goes beyond that. If you really look how all these interlace with his actions over the years and his contempt for the Gambian people, you will see they fit exactly.

| Tamsier "alaie ndigil, Njoko njal" ( serere meaning "thats truth, thank you very muck")The man is desperately trying to gather we the minority (serere, fula, jola, wollof, manjakos etc)against i believe the mandinkas who are NOT tribalist but very politically sound since the first republic, if you sincerely followed the trends since sir Dawda's time. And we the minority will only act a slave to our conscience if we should allow jammeh to use us in that way for his selfish reason and the consequency could be catastrophic.I am 100 percent sure that Mandinkas are voting vehemently for jammeh and they are NOT playing a tribal card, there is the fact that every body cannot like a leader which he jammeh admitts, but he should not use that as a yard stick to tarnish the entire mandinka community in the Gambia as enemies of his Government while we stand by and watch, if we are patriotic we should condemn it for the benefit of peaceful cohension amongst us all, rather than letting it be a mandinka problem because i am a serere and as long as he did not speak against the sereres i shoundn't care, i thing thats wrong all of us jola, wollof, sarahule serere, should abhore this reckless remarks to show Jammeh that we have been happy existing as one small family and we don't want him to spoil that happy relationship amongs us with his careless remarks.May God continue to foster the peaceful tribal relationship amonst us in The Gambia.Down with trbalism and racism. |

Dembish,
You have hit on the explosive that Yaya Jammeh seeks to plant on Gambian soil for his selfish benefit. For a start, this bad sentiment has actually worked and that is why Yaya trades on it. He was out there talking to communities in secret meetings to tell them his mission was to ensure that one tribe ( the Mandinka) not to stay on ruling Gambia. Then he continued to induce them with the deceptive claim that he had no problem with other tribes and that they must unite to deny the extension of Mandinka rule at all.
After all the 15 years, it has now become clear that Jammeh's selfisness and brutality respects no tribal boundary. It truned out that he traumatises even the Jola ethnics as rightly observed by Shaka elsewhere on this forum. In fact, the Kujabi family who stood for him lastly turned his most sought after victims. Where are they?He tormented the Jola populated region, of Gambia, Foni on the witch hunting debacle.
Therefore, Yaya is simply selfish and wicked and hiding behind tribal sentiments to brew hatred between Gambia's harmonious ethnic diversity.
Come on, Gambians, do we have to listen to this misleading character of a president to spill Gambian blood on the frivilous pretext of one tribe against the other.
Because Yaya knows his days are numbered, he is prepared to fuel up bad relations to the extent of breaking a civil war on Gambian soil. That is exactly where he stands.
Gambians have to be alerted in discovering the truth behind Yaya's desparate desire to set our country on fire. |
