Gamcel and Africell earn a lot of money. What are they doing with it? Waste it on drink? Play poker? |

Someone out there is reaping where they never sowed. Now that Gamtel is aware of the leak, some people are nervous. Gamtel is going to shut all those leaks , such that whoever uses Gamtel to terminate their calls pay interconnection charges which until recently has not been the case. I alway wonder how some pre-paid cards could always increase the units at the same £5.
If my sources are correct, Gamtel should go all out to get these monies much needed by Gamtel and GG. |

May be Kololiboy. But in Yoro Bawol, we hang our cell phones up the tallest tree to get a signal. So net time you call Kondorong, exercise patience because i would have been climbing the tree to talk to you. Please make your calls short because i hang on to the branches with one hand while holding the set with the other.

So we can expect a swift swoop by Gambia Custom and Excise then. Do you think Gamtel will connect upto the satelite connections because discs are less reliable, and if Gambia wants to be taken seriously as a relocation area for international business. Its telecommunication needs to meet international specifications otherwise Gambia's silcon valley will be a daydreaming white elephant.

Such monies don't go to Customs infact now customs is under a new Institution the GRA. Gambia Revenue Authorithy which is (customs+former income tax). Gamtel until recntly was only second to SA in terms of telecoms. I understand that Gamtel is currently connected to an international satellite INTELSAT. Besides Gamtel is part of Regional African Satellite Communications Organisation (RASCOM) whose vice president Elliman Cham is a former Deputy MD Gamtel. This organisation is presently working towards an a african statelitte connecting all national telecoms companies. This would make calls lot much cheap. |
