That's a contribution of Great Brittain to the justice of the Gambia (not only the Gambia, but I suppose in all the Commonwealth countries).

What an outfit!!? Are their lawyers wigs not generating extreme heat in our tropical Africa? I thought people are supposed to wear outfits befitting their climates,or? |

People have been saying those wigs are ridiculous for years but just try making judges and barristers give them up. They will not! They're proud of what they symbolise and argue that wig wearing gives them gravitas in court.
They aren't blonde anyway, they are grey. I.e. associated with age and wisdom. |

Gambian judges are controlled by the executive with Yaya at its helm. If wisdom is total submission, then wisdom is compelled to look for a new meaning. |

Oh I'm not saying judges are wise. Just that they think they are. ;-) |

They may be wise in other parts of the world. But Gambian judges, under Yaya, are "legal mercenaries" and pretentious wise opportunists. |

You are right Bamba. Not in the Gambia. Out here, they are clever devils. |

For those of you who don't already know. It is forbidden in Islam to wear wigs. Can you have politics without religion (as jammeh said he wants in his last speech.). I think not. The majority of the laws made in the West were based on the ten commandments.
This therefore is could be a symbol to give the impression that Gambian Lawyers are as educated as those in Britain. To copy cat generally doesn't work.
In an ideal society would it not be better to show the far greater qualities of wisdom and justice that the Gambian people in general possess, in an attire that suits. One that would give international accredited status in it's own right.
A thought!
Kondorong do you really believe that they are clever Devils?

Well they are seen siding with Junkung and in many cases their decisions are flouted by Him. The case of mr Jeng the mayor, Hassan Jalow, Bory touray, all fired and the chief Justice has not done antthing. People still in jail beyond constitutional limits. Cases dragging on end. Pa Sallah Jagne, Muder trial of Ousainou etc. Too many to list.
The drafted decrees are killing us. They are really clever devils. Recently one of the judges was found to be involved in corruption in the sale of assets seized by AMRC. Hamat Bah brought it to the assembly. The Bar protested and he was the one to try Hamat, Halifa and OJ and they refused.
They kept him there until the bar protested. He is still adjucating. He should be removed. They cannot ensure that their decisions are implemented. They can do that by putting the IG to task and the attorney general. |

I don't think ALL Gambian judges are only pretending wisdom. Of course I have very little knowledge about this, but in the case of my accident, the judge showed wisdom and didn't punish the boy who caused this accident too hard. This was in my sense, because the one who was really guilty couldn't be punished after Gambian laws. |

There are more than one. Soon the whole bag will be thrown away. Algali was another. The list continues. He was incharge of the commission but eventuallly had his pockets full. Shall i name more? |
