I wonder if anyone can answer this question for me: Grade 9 exams are all over; no one knows exatly when the results will come out - so how can students select a school for September if they don't know their grade 9 results? I'm going in August and have two students who want to go on to Grade 10 but without agregate results - what happens?
Thanks ......

hi Lily, what I would suggest is going to the school they want to be in for Grade 10, and asking for a place on hold subject to results. it is a mad scramble, but do the homework now.
the school they are in, visit and find out when the results will be delivered to the school.
What school are they transferring from and going to. I have not know a school reject a child in grade 10 if the results are high. is the school of there choice oversubscribed??

If you want to go to Nusrat or St Peter's (for example) then the aggregate needs to be 25 or lower - so I still don't understand how they start the term in September: unless of course they take it on the Upper basic schools' say-so?
Maybe results will be earlier this year but I think some years they can be quite late ...

But thanks for responding Jambo and I'll see what I can do!

When I was in the 9th grade (14 years ago...gosh I am getting old) you pick your choice of school before you take the exam. When the results come out, schools will announce cut off marks. So if and when the results come out in August, they will have almost a month to register with their schools of choice or find alternative schools if they dont make cut off marks.

thank you Mansasulu, that is what I meant, you could still apply and go through the necessary forms, at least you would have done stage one of the legwork. results the last time i checked came out mid august and they started grade 10 at least 4 weeks later, minimum. this is enough time to get the application approved. You will know the cut off mark.
Lily can I ask do you have anyone at either school, and why this choice they are long way from each other.

Thanks Mansa - I was just a bit perplexed because either last year - or the year before some students didn't get results until October - but, if it's August that's great because I'm off at the end of the month.
Jambo - no, not yet - but it's for two different students - one lives in lamin and the other in Serrekunda. I think the boy in Lamin will be fine (though terribly, I can't remember if he's grade 8 or 9!). The other boy has just repeated his grade 9 and dreams of nusrat but I don't think he'll make it. Still, there will be other places. Also have a girl who want to go to Daddy Jobe (old Pipeline) and I'm sure she'll be fine ...
And another waiting for grade 12 results .....
Oh well!
Looking forward to seeing them all .....
Thanks both for responses.

hi Lily,

if I was you and I would start the ball rolling, for each child ask them for their preferences of school, ask someone to visit the schools and get an idea of what is needed, what grade/results are they looking for. what are the school fees/uniform etc.
when do you go. regards
