Whereīs all the hot debates? Whenever I check this forum every second month or less (because I know nothing new has happen since last time I was here) nowadays I just gasp and move on to Topix instead... This used to be a lively, interesting forum some years ago but now...
Au revoir!

Babylon, I agree things have gone a bit stale on here lately. Perhaps there is nothing new to say? I've not travelled to Gambia for nearly 2 years now, so feel as if I have less valid comments to make on the present situation. I am not sure when I will return, but if I do I will post about my experiences.
I look on this site most days at the same time as I check my daily emails. It's part of my life now. But there is less and less I want to comment on. |

| If you like Religion and politics topics then yes the usual people who post in those topics are not around at the moment,if you like Gambian news there appears not a lot of that either,it is now the rainey season as you all know and at this time things in The Gambia slow down a little more, and life becomes even harder,it is a pity I agree that the hot topics have cooled down, perhaps there is another site run on similar lines to bantaba in cyberspace that has taken over and become lively. |

I think the reason the hot debates have stopped because nothing happened, how many of the members went to gambia on holiday at least five years ago and when we go now it is like nothing has changed same old bumsters, same old tour companies, things still slow. there is progress but it is slow. the things I thought would change, like a road to jufreh has not happened, changes to education, ie fees not changed, some the hotels could do with be updated and not let to run down. We all travel to various villages and have projects/families/supports groups but have they made the progress you hoped they would have no. it is hard to be positive. all subjects that could be lively get hi jacked my a few and it becomes a slanging match,, whats is that all about. enjoy the day.

My thoughts exactly, very depressing, but the people still smile, and nothing gets done, make some Attaya will you. On second thoughts a glass of Julbrew may be better |

| Or another reason could be the insults and abuse puts people of posting also quite innocent postings get taken out of context turned around and end up acrimonious |

Could be, but I think that most of us who post quite often are used to that, but it is also true that bantaba in cyberspace is VERY "clicky" (to the confused and those whose first language is not English, that means if you are not in the circle of those who know about the topic and consider themselves experts you probably will be ignored!) |

Yes but if you compare this forum to other forums ("Topix African american forum" for example which is by far the rudest and most racist Iīve ever seen!) this site is muuuuch friendlier than most out there. But members seem to be too afraid to say their honest opinions out of fear to step on someones toes and be considered as rude.. If everyone always agrees with eachother (even though they really dont) there will be no interesting discussions worth reading. This forum definately need more fire and new voices ready to speak up! "If you canīt take the heat get outta the kitchen"
Some people who are sensitive of critisism should perhaps find another hobby than writing at forums because sooner or later they will face harsh words from someone and feel like their whole world just collapsed... You shouldnīt take things too seriously when talking on the net to strangers. |

Yeah I hear what you say. But I think you can still have constructive debate without the need to attack or insult the person maybe im just being old fashiond I accept that there are thoes who thrive on it so you just take it with a pinch of salt

Hi Babylon,
I suppose it's the time factor that stops some of us posting as much as we used to.
Peace

Sister, come on now, you especially used to be a great poster, not everything that you posted I would agree with, but you have been absent for some time, lack of time,right.......... how long does it take to sead a few snippets and post a response, the sad fact is that many have just got fed up with the TWO PRIMARY topics posted on bantaba, they have given their input so many times to the same things brought up time and time again, plus the fact that I think many Gambians who are living outside the country have not returned home for many years and are not able to talk about how things are now, the price of a bag of rice the cost of a mobile phone, things like that whereas some of us who are lucky enought to visit more frequently know more about current things that Gambians living abroad.WE all have to get a great deal from the news media for our postings which sometimes have inaccurices in their stories ( As I have found out recently, when I took an article as being accurate, until it was pointed out to me that I could well be mistaken.)I would welcome comments from anyone on what I have written, will they be discussed or just ignored as usual, lets see. |
