This is just my opinion ,and the way I see it any nation with multiple ehtnic groups and classes observing signs of a strife as we have all observed in Gambia has to encompass term limits on certain positions. The fact is a solution needs to be in place, more of a permanent nature, rather than just a temporary remedy, this will help ensure stability, internal peace, and prosperity which we have come to expect of life in any civilized society.
Through one of the fortunate accidents of history as in the Coming of Jammeh, I personally think his coming into Gambian politics has brought about true change in our political dispensation starting with the introduction of the IEC ,Jammeh's role in Gambian Poliitcs regardless of how it's analyzed ,is geared towards ensuring true democracy in Gambia.
Jammeh being an already distinguished leader can resolve the problem for both our present and future generations by introducing a presidential term limit . First of all he has full power over every aspect of government and most importantly of our economic life . Term limits have been in practice since the early civilizations which had elected offices, both imposed limits on some positions. In ancient democracies, no citizen could serve in certain positions more than a specified time.
It's very obvious that in most modern presidential and parliamentary systems of government which i feel is being practiced in Gambia "a hybrid" are less likely to employ term limits on their leaders. This is because our leaders rarely have a set "term" at all rather, they serve as long as they have the confidence of the parliament, a period which could potentially last for life.
In American history ,George Washington could have been elected to a third term, but declined it, suggesting two terms of four years were enough for any president. In Gambia on the other hand I still feel that Jammeh is needed to stir us in the right direction, possibly all the way till 2020 to achieve Vision 2020,this is due to all the vultures and parasites lingering around waiting to pounce, any time they sense some kind of weakness in the system.
Am telling you ,not that there is'nt any one capable of runing the affairs of the nation. But the fact remains that anyone given the chance at present will fail drastically simply because of the political environment. The cyber fools are scared of Jammeh,so are some of the thieves and liars. If Pdois,Nrp or Udp came to power today ,NADD just disintergrated ,Imagine a coalition of all the ********s including the kletomaniac Mai Fatty. I promise ya it won't be long before we start runing for the borders to run away from the chaos..........................................Peace

Good point, Moe, “is a one man can not achieve national development all by himself” approach, therefore development is a product of many generations, leaders, visions in a long period of time. It is not enough having the WILL to do well but also the energy to implement assumptions (from theory to praxis). Naturally man is not able to maintain the same level of enthusiasm, vigilance and endurance after a certain number of years doing the same job, be it a party leader or ...it becomes monotonous. Don’t you think? |

You're very right, IMHO, Janko. Coupists have no right to cling onto power indefinitely. They don't even deserve a single term in office, not to mention hijacking a whole civil service. Seems as Guinea Bissau coupists are relinquishing power by democratic means. Food for thought! |

| I am just simply baffled by Moe's recent posting. I know he would say there he goes again joining my conversation "as a if I care or what ever", but the fact that you can make suggestions for change as we or most of us were doing yet getting "sticked" for simply that by you beats me totally. None of us wants to see the country descend into a state of disaster and in our own tiny ways suggest small or major ways which we think will help steer our country away from disaster, I am sure the question of term limit is a not a new topic here or elsewhere, why it should be important now is questionable , can I suggest that it might because you say so and therefore it is commendable whereas if any of us so-called loud mouths were the ones to come up with it then it there becomes bogus eh.Any way I want to commend you for coming up with the suggestion that Yahya Jammeh comes up with a term limit and ensuring that all the mechanisms are in place to see that this is respected before he bids us good bye after doing that wonderful last act.My dear friend and allow me to call you that as I do not consider you as an enemy , by your recent posting I can safely say that you too have fallen into the chasm of anti- Jammehrites as he and his cohorts do not want to hear any talk about term limits for him . If anything, they want him to rule for ever period. Please check what I am saying and reconsider your stance as this may cost you his friendship , with these last; I wish you all the best.I am sure you have heard of some guy/s who were offered jobs which they could have accepted but they rejected it for good reasons :- Halifa was one such person; just to name some body as an example. What am trying to say is that some guys would make suggestions on line for purely patriotic reasons and not for personal gain or greed but then we can expect that they could be tagged as otherwise. When and if that happens it is left to others to see where the truth lies, I take solace in the fact that Halifa Sallah more than served as a good example of honest and dedicated citizens, this is my opinion . |

You are creole speakers and most of the time you get carried away by the hatred instilled in you ,trust me no one ever knows what ya'll driving to ,even if it means well, just to enlighten you it's due to all the miscontrued facts embedded in your rhetoric. Thats typically what happens when you are player hater of the year, the player hater in you always comes out. Yep and i totally agree Janko, This is what i think happens, if you decide to stay longer than two terms, you will make a lot of friends and enemies along the way,Then you end up in The Sir Dawda scenario.Throughout the process people close to you will be doing what they are best at, mind you They ain't nothing but Vultures ,Parasites ,Leaches,Parrots, Then you choose if you will destroy the lives of people who have been so close to you and even named some of their kids after you. Most instances it gets brushed under the carpet due to relations and interventions by our great religious leaders. If you dont adhere to the first option your resort to the second option and end up with enemies everywhere fueling the hatred, lies, deceit and bad mouth. Jammeh is a typical example. If Sir Dawda did what was right at the time ,trust me we will not be talking about ever being champions of human rights, one time in our lives. We were the Champions of we can do whatever and aint a goddamn thang gonna happen. Trying to take that culture creates paranoia amongst thieves...................................Peace quote: Originally posted by Janko

| I can only describe you as a confused person who probably does not know where he stands. You keep vacillating like a fan and that is a problem of the mind. What I said was that I was baffled and never did I try to speak for others as you seem to suggest and by your statement that I am a creole speaker you want to point out your mastery of the English language. I say bravo to you , only holding out a rejoinder to that , by saying that you who speak Shakespearean English have yet to display any such qualities here. What I read is your babbling street garbage or slang, I am so impressed by your verbal aptitude, bravo again brother. As for friends , yes I think you needed one , that is Yahya Jammeh whom you defend ; as always but slipped by coming up with the suggestion of a term limit which is taboo in his camp ergo you lost him, that was my point and that was elementary my dear Moe, no need to exert your little grey cells as it is not rocket science we are talking about here ; simple, even the mongoose can tell you that .eh!. |
