Everyone is entitled to their own opinion thats fine but in order to have a discussion others should be able to understand what has been written,I can not understand what is a very serious poem because I cannot speak french as in the case with many others here on Bantaba,OK perhaps we should all learn french, but that's another topic. I should have not treated your posting with my strange sense of humour, but I think I can be forgiven because I could not understand what was written, probably should have "shut up" as you put it.The posting did have the effect of many joining in to have their say, even though they like me did not understand what you had written about,The last line "And surely rubbish" I think was somewhat modifed from an "exact " translation, not so?
Still interesting ,and more so than some of the indepth topics that get regularly posted on bantaba by some posters. My own opinion, its not my homepage so if I don't like it,then I can do the other thing.Everyone has a choice.

Yes indeed Toubab , too bad that you did not understand me at all. I have written in Mandinka and saw no reason why I could not do the same in French. Your contribution was fine as far as I am concerned and you are always at liberty to comment on my postings ;even point out errors as Madiba did recently. I once again repeat , I just write what comes to mind if it does in English I write it in English , do you understand me friend ? No intention to do anything ultra vires .On second thought though, did it not arouse interest in some quarters that the writing means to carry a message perhaps some one can translate it etc. That way start a debate or discussion too ?

You are a poet and as such words "flow" within you,if such a "flow" is in frence so be it,no cristsm whatever,I just couldnt understand,my problem ,the poet should not concern himself/herself with such trivial problems after all he/she (must includer the women here and be P.C.!) is an artist, just the same as a composer of music.

Ah! ha!PC there you go again, but then this is an imperfect world and one always has to check oneself when communicating as otherwise you would/could be found wanting in that domain. being a poet for me is a dream yet to to realised and I take your tagging me as one , a compliment, that notwithstanding I should take note of critiques of my writings if I am to be considered as such , to wit a poet. The problem is not trivial in my view as it concerns you and you do matter a lot as a person and one who reads what I do write; you see .Others might consider my writing as "sucking" as in "sucks" or "shocking" or whatever! What do I know about that, except that it is the reader(s) who can decide what they get or grasp from the writings .I just go on writing when I get the inspiration to do so , Thanks for the connection and this is very sincere on my part.

Personally I think that P.C. (politically correct) is in line with the last phrase in your recent french poem under discussion here, there are those on bantaba who would disagree completly

Hmmm...I am warming up under the sun.

After that translation from Bro.Madis, I too got a chance to comment now. It reminded me of former president L. Senghore of Senegal, a poet and visionary leader. He used to go to the Goree to bash his poems.

Like 2bab, if one is a fan to the poetry club, one must request things to be put in a langugage s/he understands. If 2bab is looking at the compiled version of your poems, in a book of poems, he must quiz to know the meanings at all times.

Back to the poem, I share its message entirely. Simply to say, we can't be quiet if everything is not right. Remember, as can be translated from our traditional cultures (this one in ollof associated with another Poet), with the crabs, none of them will rise to the surface of the waters. The reason being simple....if one crab is swimming up, the others with their legs will pull it down to sink. That is what I call the 'wounded struggle.' Don't you forget to play that Obama video [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yel8IjOAdSc&feature=related ] any time, dust yourself and take what is yours (freedom, equality and justice) because the oppressor (any form) will not readily give it to you.

merci mon frere!

That was a hilarious and quite apt rejoinder Dalton, I missed that particular video and could not stop laughing . You know what ; politics can be very interesting and entertaining too ,depending on the level of ones awareness and aptitude to digest issues and their underlying causes or their causal effects. Barak Obama is a star and one that would find a lot of fans trailing him every where , a role model so to speak.

I agree - Obama, as hilarious as he may seem, also makes a perfect life example for the position of authority -the presidency. His recent endorsement of Islam reveals how committed he is to seeing a peaceful world of mutual co-existence.

Q. Cummings used to jokingly say "The President never dies; it is the man in the presidency."

Happy bilated father's day to all...& Suntou might excuse me for not being able to get done with the piece for him...

I hereby dedicate this poem to the six helpless journalists who were robbed off their god given liberties by a roguish reckless regime. May they have the strength to withstand the stress and horrors of incarceration. One day we shall recount this story and that would be a day to live for , wishing all a long life full of great expectations.
