This I found in the D.O.

http://observer.gm/africa/gambia/article/re-lets-stop-making-fools-of-ourselves-online

Snippet:

Should The Gambia continue to be a peace maker in other nations or should we invite people to come and keep the peace for us? May God forbid. Almost on an hourly basis most Gambians away go online to know the developments in the country. So our day starts by what type of news we read over the internet. I agree with the author who wrote, saying “let’s stop making fools of ourselves online"

Toubab , that writer has some valid points on the issue of people wishing the country harm as is the subject of his writings. I how ever take issue with his allegation that those who write against the regime are all doing so out of spite due to their need to register as political refugees etc. It is glaringly clear that the press is being hounded and gagged in the Republic ergo online writers spring up to fill the gap. Sensational organs do once in a while come up with news bites that can best be classified as simply that, rabble rousers ,but then this is to be expected from them as it seems even the simple ;truth cannot be expounded on the mainland . Any body trying to do so gets the anger and full venom of the state judicial system breathing down your neck. The lucky ones get invited to see the dreaded NIA but some have apparently gone missing in action. If any of those persons happen to be his relatives and if he has blood in his veins perhaps considering that he is also of sound mind , he might check what he says about the generality of online journalists or posters what ever name they are known by.It is very easy to praise the regime , that can be done by any one without fear, let him try doing the opposite whilst in the country and see if he will repeat the statement he just posted to the daily observer. It is his opinion none the less and perhaps the extent of his understanding of what drives people to stand up against the regime this way. We all have relatives back home and wishing the country harm is or can be equated to the vengefull prayer of a bed bug for fire to burn the hut it is occupying, for certainty it can and will hurt it as well. Let us allow people to spill their venom ,but pent up anger can be explosive and may God save us and our dear nation from the effects of such calamitous happenings. I just cannot stomach people who think they own us all and can decide what is good for every one, they surely can chose to love Yahya and leave others to hate him which does not equal to wanting detruction of the country. The country was there before him and will/shall be in existence after he is gone. That is the truth. If a man has the need to talk allow him to do so ,but gagging him might lead him to biting the hand placed on his mouth to stop him, similarly too it is responsible and reasonable action on the governments part to allow dissent , divergent views and opposition ,stiffling of all these can lead to rebellion and no one should blame the rebels in these instances. There was a cause if one does not blame that cause then the effect most be let alone.Perhaps this poster can also be described as one of those currying for favors from H.E the Shieck President or looking out for a ministerial appointment , this avenue was used before and successfully too.

Valid points, yes, but the last sentence of the piece was disturbing.

"they need to protect the integrity of their profession before calling for freedom of expression."

I feel that all the integrity a journalist has is that it essential to protect your source, otherwise you will never be given a story in the future, therefore you will have no job !

This is how i feel about this screwed up situation we are in. Generally most people run around claiming freedom of speech and justice yet trampling on the rights of other individuals at the same time. Let me tell you something Kaaniba for now the only people having to answer for anything, obviously put them selves in the position to. Breaking the laws that were set by the people and claiming freedom of speech is bogus. Everyone is saying what about my rights ,well how about the rights of people being chastizised by some half baked ********s who barely know whats going on.

If anyone wants news and they feel that Foroyaa , Observer , Thepoint can't give you your daily dose ,Please don't expect it to come from these foolish online blog editors. I owe no one no apologies cos either way am still gonna say what am gonna say.

Solo the Banjul correspondent was at the Park couple of weeks ago.The football Game was between Married Men and single Bachelors, Well "Solo the Banjul correspondent" was there this I saw with my very eyes. I thought he would bring his Chinese shoes "Baba Galleh" and show us something new since my Pullo futa Brethren love chinese shoes. He did not play at all ,posers is what these donkeys are.

If you wanna Know whats happening come to the Bantaba for if it's just credibility you are looking for it's everywhere and we will keep it that way.

"Live and let live" ,not anymore ,not on my time clock anyways. It really does'nt matter if GOD came down here and said "I am your God" I will ask the brother to prove it Don't you even worry about that.

My message to the wanna be "I don't even know what to call them" I hope they start taking notes and sharpen their pens for if it's bogus propaganda like we have seen from the likes of Dalton ,Matthew, bokarr,Pa Nderry et al. I will be right here everyday to scope things out.

Am pretty sure you are aware of the fact that one can criticize without BREAKING THE LAWS. The days of terrorism in cyberspace is over bro. It's a new begining and it will not be tolerated anymore.

Did you stop to Think that some of these people being insulted have Nephews and nieces more sophisticated than the rest of these cyber ********s. All i Have to say to them is I hope they smell the aroma of the coffee in the air ..................................Peace

Toubab everything is disturbing at this point, and what really sucks is no one will ever tell you the truth. This ia what happened to me from personal experience ,They say when shiit gets crazy you turn to your elders for they are more experience ,but when you ask and no body knows the answers and gives you a false answer that can be authenticated it becomes a problem for me. You know what I think is causing all these arrest in Gambia right now.

Started with the todays newspaper editor's arrest including the controversial statements from the GPU which are understandable. But following the story of the today newspaper false publication case it seems someone else got their stories wrong.......

MOE, a glimmer of hope here for newspapers and the legal system:

http://thepoint.gm/africa/gambia/article/pap-saine-acquitted-and-discharged

Snippet:

“To invite him to enter his defence at this stage of the proceedings would tantamount to a gross violation of the Gambia constitution which provides that every person who is charged with a criminal offence shall be presumed innocence until he or she is proved or has pleaded guilty; and that no person charged with a criminal offence shall be compelled to give evidence at the trial,” he ruled.

He finally acquitted and discharged the accused person Pap Saine, of all the two counts charges.
