It is alreadly stipulated that the president cannot appoint the speaker of the house ,According to the article It's up to the national assembly members to decide who the next speaker is going to be .This will prove to be another test of whether Gambians are really looking forward to change .......................................Peace

It is true that the constitution empowers only the National Assembly to appoint or select the Speaker, but let us not fool ourselves into thinking that the Gambia's National Assembly is the independent branch of government it is supposed to be. It is common knowledge that the National Assembly and the Judiciary are both micro-managed, albeit illegally by the State House. jammeh does not have to come to the National Assembly and appoint the Speaker; he only has to mention it to someone, possibly the majority leader (uncle Fabakary Tombong Jatta) and the the APRC-majority national Assembly will happily do the job for him without raising a single question. A president who can fire the Chief Justice (the judiciary) and the Speaker (the legislature) and has the power to even dissolve the legislature (National Assembly)is indeed too powerful for any meaningful CHANGE to occur. For any change to take place, Jilanka's power must be trimmed down and brought to size ... |

Kay ,this is exactly why it's very important that you don't run your mouth unneccessarily.Tell me Mrs Renner is just not the perfect fit.She is my "Iron Lady". This is one National Member ya'll need to stay away from!!!!!!!!.Generally when your party has a majority in the national assembly ,you get to decide which candidate best fits your agenda. I won't be suprised if thats at all possible, the fact is the Aprc has majority of the votes in the national assembly if am right. ..........................................Peacequote: http//observer.gm/africa/gambia/nationalassembly-to-elect-newspeakerOriginally posted by kayjatta

Kay Fabakary Tombong Jatta(SK East MP) cannot be Speaker of the House. He is not nominated but elected. Only a nominated MP can be a speaker or so says the constitution. Let us just hope to God that it is not Jezebel the harlot Tina Faal.quote: Originally posted by kayjatta

Shaka, do not get me wrong. I did not say Fabakary T. Jatta will be even considered for the place of a Speaker. I know very well what is required to be a speaker. What I was saying is that since Mr. Jatta is the APRC Majority Leader in the national Assembly; therefore I was suggesting that as the main person to push the APRC agenda in the National Assembly he (Mr, Jatta) will be at the forefront in the attempt to appoint the president's choice of Speaker. We all know from the news of the nomination of Ms. Renner that she is most likely to be the replacement for Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay (FJC)as Speaker. Moe, I know Ms. Renner very well. I have worked with her. She is the one who hired me to teach at St. Augustine's. I have enormous respect for Renner. I think she is a very competent administrator, but personality wise (Renner is very independent-minded and assertive) she is no FJC. If Jammeh is looking for another puppet Speaker (or better still "jali musso"), I think he has made a wrong choice in Ms. Renner. Time will perhaps tell ... |

Shaka, do you see what I was trying to say now? Read this report and the role of Uncle Jatta in the nomination of Renner the Speaker. There are people at the right place to take care of the President's agenda ...

Ms Renner is a very capable person for this job but am afraid, her moral conscience and integrity will now have to take some denting as the circumstance leading to her nomination to parliament and subsequent election as speaker is not only shady but also unconstitutional. The president does not have any legal powers to revoke the nomination of a sitting nominated Member of Parliament. Having said that, I must acknowledge that Ms Renner's nomination to parliament and subsequent election as speaker is a blessing in disguise. She will undoubtedly bring to the Chair the much needed professionalism, respect and candour than what was left by that despicably rude Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay.
I congratulate her on her new appointment and wishing her all the best in the exercise of her solemn constitutional duties.
Thanks

| I got your drift Kay. Congratulations to Mrs Renner!! I still won't forgive her for the batterings i suffer at her hands in saints though. Despite her slender and slim frame this woman can make caning a whole classroom of young men seem like sucking a lollipop. As punishment for disruption in the classroom she would line a whole classroom of boys in her Vice Principal's corner office and whip us all with equal measure from the first to the last. Some of us tried to be smart by going to the back of the line hoping that by the time they get to her she would be exhausted. Boy did she prove us wrong and it seem like she get some extra energy after skinning the next boy. You can only watch with horror from the back of the queue as each boy leaves her office nursing his backside with the attention you can only give your behind after being attacked by a colony of black ants(melentan). I swear the woman was on steroids. All that said, she is a brilliant professional and a great English Language teacher. I don't think there are many people who can handle the pressure of managing a mad boys high school like Saints but she did a tremendous job there and we all thanked her for that. I just hope she takes her cane to the Sheikh because he deserve some serious lashing on his backside. We are praying for you Renner. I hope the mad Sheikh will allow you to perform your duties in peace. |

The "Rude Banana" clones have evolved, into something "almost" human. What's scary is that they're still jumpy. and a complete rehash is imminent. Chill down, Moelly! |
